Four Year Bandiversary!
Aug 05, 2013
Wow...4 years! Time flies when you quit focusing on your weight and get on with your life! My life has changed so much since then! I am so much more active and involved and I don't wear out like I used to. I still love my band and I have had no complications. I will admit that I still struggle with eating too fast and not chewing well enough when I start eating, so I still occasionally have thrown up, but minimally. I have balanced out at 175 though I would still like to get down to 150 before considering anything like plastics. I typically wear size 8-10 slacks and jeans...a size I wore in Junior and Senior High school!

First fill
Sep 10, 2009
down 8.8 pounds since my last appointment (8/12/09)
down 17.8 pounds since my surgery (8/4/09)
down 30.3 pounds since my initial visit
it means I've averaged .5 pounds per day lost since surgery and 3.56 pounds per week.
Dr. Holloway was super impressed with how I've done and even though I didn't "have to" have a fill because I'm losing well and not starving, we decided to put in 2 ccs in order to keep my momentum up.
I am super thrilled and am totally loving my band!!! I have yet to feel "bandster hell" with the exception of the two days where I was PMSing and wanted nothing but carbs! I only eat 2-3 meals per day and am not starving EVER. My meals are mostly protien and vegetables and I drink a glass of OJ in the mornings with my Metamucil (gotta stay regular!!!)
My biggest problem has been the mental need to snack, especially if I see food, but I am slowly overcoming that REALLY BAD habit.
Just wanted to document how happy I am right now!

Shock and Awe
Aug 20, 2009
I had my Lap Band placed on August 4th in Scottsbluff with Dr. Holloway (My Hero!!!) and had my hernia repaired at the same time. I was out the next day and only used my prescription pain med till that Thursday. I have had no nausea and very little pain (having my tubes tied hurt way more!) I have not needed my reflux medicine since surgery and I am rarely short of breath since the hernia repair!
I have followed his plan (clear liquids through Thursday, purees through yesterday, and today I get to start soft foods). I lost 9 pounds the first week, and have lost an additional 8 pounds this week. I have checked with the Doctor and he is fine with this loss so far. My meals consist of up to 4 ounces of food at a time and only eat when I'm hungry. I have found I am not hungry until around 10 or 11 in the morning and usually get three meals in a day, one around 11 a.m., one around 3:30 p.m. and then an evening meal with my family around 7 p.m.
There is no fluid in my band, but I am scheduled to go in for my first fill September 9th. I feel awesome, and actually left August 7th and spent a week in Douglas chaperoning State Fair--I just took my soups, yogurt, cream of wheat and pudding with me! I'm not really sure if I will need a fill, as I am feeling restriction now, and am not ravenously hungry.
The real shock to me is this--my clothes are already starting to get loose! I wore a pair of slacks yesterday that when I tried them on last spring I couldn't get close to zipping, and they fit loosely yesterday!
I guess I just wanted to share so that others can see what a normal person has experienced with the band. I know there have been allegations that all the "positive" people on the lap band forum are paid reps--I assure you I am not, in fact I could use some money right about now ;) !
Best wishes on your band journey and wish me continued success!
The first appointment...

Yesterday was the nurses informational appointment at NCSA. Lots of good information, but since I am a regular on OH, I already was aware of many of the things. It did bug me a little that there seemed to be a slant towards Gastric Bypass and away from Lapband. The way she presented made it seem "so much easier" to just get the bypass. I hope she was just trying hard not to give anyone false hope or "miracle cure" syndrome!
