Carolyn, Fear is natural.. but hold on to your faith, I have seen it said many times here.. If God led you to it, he will lead you through it. One of the things I held on to while I was waiting for surgery was this...if I did not have the surgery, I KNOW I will a) have more and more co morbidities and b) have to change my eating because of them and c) most likely will die early in life because of my weight. If I went ahead and had surgery.. I MAY have complications, problems, regrets.. but then again I may not..I held on to those thoughts for a long time and they really helped me through.. Here I am 6 months out and doing GREAT! I would do it again in a second.. Good luck.. stay the path, and keep your faith..God is right there beside you the whole way.. Tami

Carolyn...My psych consult consisted of about 5 min with the Dr and then the 3 hour MMPI test. Its simple just LOOOONNNGG. It asks mutlple choice questions and asks general questions with some really silly ones in there...like if you hear voices...some like...have you ever wanted to hurt anyone...yourself etc... I had been on depression meds and anxiety meds for about 8 yrs but I stopped taking them early last yr (almost a yr ago!) I feel much better now but I did have to ask Dr about something because my nerves and not sleeping just waiting on this surgery so I am NOW taking just and anxiety pill (xanax). But will stop once I get thru all this....but with my PCP, Therapist and Psychologist all knowing I wanted this and have talked about it at lenght. They all stood behind me...I told them many times "if I could feel better physically I KNOW I'd feel better mentally) the Dr that gave me the psych test just asked that I see my current therapist ASAP after the surgery and he would clear me for the surg. So I guess after all this what I'm saying is I was approved LOL. Just be honest with them and let them know NOW that you are on meds etc....this should be fine....AND you can continue your meds after the surg. with no problems from what I read on the Q&A boards..Many do. Hope this helps and God bless! Jamie

THe iv hurt me the worst. The incision is ling but already faded to a nice light pink color. I am so glad that I did this, you could not believe the changes in my life. I wish you peace on your decision.

Hello Carolyn! I had my open rny surgery done on November 14th. honestly, the pain at first, you dont feel at all. You've got a nifty little button that you can push whenever you feel the need, and then after that, you mostly have a sore feeling. I think the worst part was the healing process about two weeks after. But even so, its still tolerable. Believe me, I'm allergic to pain too, lol. The best thing that I took with me, was my cd mp3 player. I made me a celtic CD that was both soothing and it drowned out the sounds of the hospital. I'll keep you in my prayers hon. God Bless!
