Hi Melissa,
I'm sorry to hear that your insurance company has denied you. I would like to suggest that you consider calling Dr. Shayani of The Obesity Law Institute. I am working with him now, helping people get pre-approval thru his Early Approval Program and also appealing denied requests for authorization. Although there are no guarantees, your chance of having a denial overturned is much greater with a well written letter that comes from an attorney who is able to formulate an appeal letter tailored specifically to your case. It's unfortunate that so many insurance companies are making it nearly impossible to be approved on the first request. Appealing a denial takes effort and time, which most surgeons offices are not willing or able to provide. It's very difficult to appeal on your own behalf, and the insurance company is hoping that you'll just give up. It's such a shame, because we all know that in the end, they will save money by covering the surgery, because we will be fitter and healthier individuals once we are at a normal weight. From your note, it sounds like you meet the criteria and should be approved based on medical necessity. If you'd like, I can tell you more about the programs available, or you can email a request for information by writing to:
