I started this journey at 338, disappointed with my efforts, constantly looking for "the new diet", and spiraling into chronic health debiliation. I have 2 cousins who were successful with bypass surgery, who inspired me to have surgery.
More than half of my family are obese, both male and female. I have seen their struggles and observed their weight gain over the years. I knew I wanted to be walking at 65 not in a scooter or wheelchair.
April 2006 in FL I had 3 surgeries done, gallbladder in Feb, laparoscopy for gastric bypass and laparotomy the the next day in April. I bleed out that night from the sutures, and Dr Case went back in to reinforce the suture lines.
My rehab was slow but the weight started dropping, I was exchanging clothing each meeting at Morton Plant. My energy level was slowly peaking with bursts. I felt better than I had felt in a very long time. My blood pressure was normal, my feet and ankles hurt less, my labs looked good.
I continued to work on building muscle, which is very important, and still work towards having better abs LOL Oh, well we still have to make goals right????
I am glad to be alive, and love each day I am here on this earth. I am glad I had bypass even though I now have my own disease processes that I must be aware of and safeguard.
Eat, drink, and be merry!!! The bypass way :)
