What to do?
Jan 17, 2012
Well just got another EGD a few days ago and it looks like my Ulcers have healed and the irritation is gone in my stomach so this means I can reschedule a surgery date.
I am confused though, I have been dealing with so many down days from my other health issues that driving 2 1/2 hours for surgery and to every appointment for the rest of my VSG care seems all too much for me.
I was told in the past that there weren't any Dr's that were doing the VSG procedure in Wichita. I called to check again a couple of months ago and they said yes they have started doing the VSG procedure. They don't advertise it which scares me a bit!
Does anyone know someone that had WLS in Wichita with Dr. Lancaster of Howes?

Hey guys I really need your support. My surgery was canceled less than a week before I was to have my VSG. I am really frustrated now!... I had the start of an ulcer about a year ago on an EGD and my surgeon just wanted to take a look at my stomach one more time thankfully but... I have two ulcers now irritation and no improvement after meds for the last year. We will be rescheduling another EGD based on test results from biopsy in the next couple of months.
I really need some real time support. I was so ready mentally and now I am questioning so many things. Is there a site that you all frequent more often? What do you recommend. Does OH not send you updates through your registered email account? Are you all going to support groups somewhere?
I had seriously prayed that God would put his hand over my surgeons and help them to have a safe surgery and make the best decisions for my welfare. In the end it doesn't matter if it would have been the day before. Truth is I had developed a bad chest cold and serious bladder irritation on top of the stomach issues that week all which could have made surgery and a catheter very dangerous. I truly believe this was my God answering my prayers and making for a safer and more successful surgery!
Thanks for reading,

Well, I am suppose to have my VSG on Wednesday Dec. 7th but I guess the Dr. wants to make sure an ulcer I used to have is all healed and will not be near my staple line. I am glad that they are concerned and want to prepare for a great surgery however, I wish this concern wasn't 6 days prior to my surgery. I guess I will know tomorrow night if the surgery is still on!
*****I could really use some prayer as well for the upcoming weeks. I have been very confident of my choice to have this surgery until, I read a blog that mentioned someone didn't make it through the surgery. I started thinking of my young children and what would become of them. Would they resent me if anything happened? Let me know how you dealt with these feelings and once again, I could really use the power of prayer for a safe and successful VSG!*****

Well you last heard from me a year ago when I was working towards an insurance requirement for WLS. I had to work an insurance approved diet plan and be supervised by a physician for 6 months. I chose Weight Watchers and of course it didn't work for me.
In the midst of fulfilling my required dieting my Bariatric Surgeon decided to leave his practice and so I had to start over and find a new Surgeon this slowed the process down . I finally chose Dr. Sidney Hu, with Tallgrass Bariatric in Topeka KS. This will be a 2 1/2 hour drive for me which stinks.
I am looking forward to any advice that you all may have for me and hope to meet some of you in the future. Right now, I am going to start shopping for pre-op diet foods, drinks and the kitchen essentials to cook them with. If you have any tips or you have made video journals please contact me asap!

Hello friends,
I started looking in to WLS about a year ago as I had heard about a new weight loos surgeon that was joining Wesley Hospital. I have a lot of health problems at such a young age and these really frustrate me many of them are as a result of my weight. I have Sleep Apnea, Fibromyalgia, Reflux, Pinched Nerves and a herniated disc. I have also started treatment for Pseudo Tumor Cerebri, which is basically a fake tumor on the brain that is actually just spinal fluid pressure.
A few months ago, I spoke with my General Physician about having WLS and he was opposed. At the time I did not realize how important his approval was and just started planning my journey anyway. My Cigna insurance requires that I have six months physician assisted weight loss prior to surgery approval so I decided to start on the Weight Watchers program. I went back to my G.P. to get his sign off on doing Weight Watchers and he would not even sign off on this. Unfortunately I had to make a very hard decision to try a new G.P.
Finally, I met with my new G.P. this week and she is not opposed to WLS so I think things are really going to start rolling. She is OK with me working the Weight Watchers program and now I am on my decent for my six months pre-op.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone God Bless!
