Well, my story is like many others.  I have been overweight all my life.  I have lost major weight 3 times in my life.  The last time, I lost 70 pounds although never reached my goal weight.  I became very interested in walking.  I even walked several half marathons!!  During this time, I started to date a wonderful man.  We were married in 2002.  At the ages of 48 and 52, it was (is) the first marriage for both of us.  I knew I couldn't keep my weight off and I knew he was very interested in good health.  I actually thought I shouldn't marry him because I would dissapoint him.  However - we are married and he is very supportive.  He has learned what a challenge it is for me and that it's not because I'm lazy or don't care.  His insurance has given me the opportunity for WLS but he has not pushed me into it and will support me whatever I decide.

Currently (11-2007)  my BMI is 40.  I'm not at my highest weight but it's not far away and the holidays are coming.  I started looking into WLS in September, 2007.  I went about it backwards: consulting a surgeon first, doing research, then finally consulting with my PCP.  She is in favor of it, has several patients who have gotten along fine - only one with complications but would do it again.

At first I thought I would have WLS as soon as possible.  Now I'm stepping back and seeing how I can fit this into my life.  I have been denied by my insurance  - no surprise - and I am willing to fight for it!!
