Here we go AGAIN! But I'm sure it'll work out this time.

I'm 46 this time around.  I've been on this website since 2002.  20 documented years of trying and failing to get Gastric Bypass surgery.  This time I'm working with Dr. Irani out of Wheat Ridge, Colorado.  She is amazing and I've already quit nicotine, gotten through my blood work, an Endoscopy, I've lost a few pounds (I'm 384 today, my highest was 404) I feel like everything is finally falling into place and the planets are in alignement.  I'm practically perfect in every way except for my weight and sleep apnea. I also have a very arthritic hip that makes it hard for me to walk. I am grateful that I'm not diabetic and I don't have high cholesterol etc.  I recently purchased a walker with a seat to help me get around a little bit.  It has been helping.

I've wanted to do this for a long time.

I began my WLS journey back in 2002.  12 years of morbid obesity, a divorce, finding a new love and two children later...  I'm back.  With insurance that will cover the surgery.  My current weight is a whopping 397lbs.  I can't believe I've gotten this big, and I'm very serious about making the major changes required to get my weight down to a healthy level and enjoying motherhood without 240 extra pounds to carry around.  I've had a couple of meetings with various doctors, and have decided that Dr. Tillquist at Swedish Medical Center in Denver will be my surgeon.  I am three months into my required monthly meetings with my primary doc, and my weight has been stable.  I'm gearing up for my mental evaluation.  Hoping my surgery will be in December 2014.

Update: 4/23/07

I have yet another job, this time working for a hospice group out of Boulder. Signing up with Kaiser again, and hoping I'll have better luck getting through their WLS process this time. I'm 31 now, and up to 391. Wish me luck.

Update: 10/24/04

Good news! I started working full-time for the first time in 4 years!!! The best part is that it's a job that I love, the pay is good, and it's somewhat physically active. My insurance through Kaiser kicks in November 1st, 2004 (which also happens to be my 29th birthday). This is giving me renewed hope that this surgery might actually happen some day.

I have been srtuggling with my smoking addiction. I quit for over a year, but while working as a CNA in a nursing home I picked it up again. I plan on quitting again soon, but I'm not looking forward to it. ;)

The last couple of years have been very difficult for me emotionally and my body shows it. When I made my first entry (in 2002) I weighed 365 and now, after money woes and family struggles, I think I'm close to 380. Although I am just 28, I am noticing a lot of silver hair, and all of my joints hurt. I feel like I'm a 28 year old trapped in a 60 year old body. It's a heartbreaking and desperate situation but I am still hopeful that the profound weight loss associated with Gastric Bypass would help me feel a little closer to my age.

My dream to have a couple of healthy babies with my loving husband and live healthy ever after. Is this too much to ask?

1st Entry - 2002

I have made the decision that gastric bypass surgery is the best option for me at this point in my life. I am 27 years old, happily married to a wonderful man, and ready to start a family. My weight hasn't really held me back until now. In order for me to have a healthy pregnancy, I needed to do two things; Quit smoking (which I did Aug 10th 2001) and loose 200 lbs.
The most frustrating part of this right now is that I need to find a better job with good insurance. I'm not making enough money to pay the bills right now and the insurance is crummy, so I feel like I'm stuck in a rut... But I'm working on it! I feel like I'm on the right path... Even if it is a little uphill at first. Thank you all for your loving support and guidance! Good luck!
