John Meilahn

"My first impression of Dr. M was he was very serious but warmed up easily. I e-mailed him and he called me at work the minute he got my e-mail. Very cool. My choices in Phila for the Lap were scarce, but my reg doc told me not to consider anything else but the lap, He told me Dr. Meilahn was his teacher in Med School and he was very thorough as a surgeon. I have a read a bit about him, he has a lot of experience with advanced gastric surgeries so that is encouraging. I know Temple U Hospital has very high standards. My first appt with him is May 9th. His admin. asst. Nyeesha is very sweet to talk to, she remembered my name right away only after 2 phone calls there. He was very informative on our first phone call and was serious about the risks and the diet post - op. I felt good the moment I spoke to him. 5/10/01 met The surgeon - yesterday. I was impressed. he drew pictures for me and my hubby and explained everything. I felt totally at ease thinking about him doing his thing. He told me he has never had a case with a leak. He has lots of experience using the laproscope on patients with a variety of stomach and esophogus problems as well as gastric bypasses. He explained all the risks, normal recovery times, post op diet. Answered all my questions and my husband's, as well as told me not to hesitate to call if I had anymore questions. he was really fab. Right now I can't think of any negatives. I would give him an A on our first meeting. 8/9/01 - 8/17/01 From Surgery to first post op visit, Dr. Meilahn has been attentive and extremely caring. He came to see me every chance he had between surgeries while I was in the hospital. His residents/students were very nice and visited me often as well for him. Every E-mail I have sent him he has responded ASAP with info or suggestions. On my first post-op visit to get my drain out he was really pleasant and answered all my questioned and seemed pleased with my progress. The only thing I can say negative is I did have to wait for him, but he was in emergency surgery so that was understandable. I would reccommend him to anyone in the Phila area considering this surgery. "
