Hello Lillian - <b>Congratulations</b> on your upcoming surgery!   You'll find the changes that follow, nothing short of a miracle. For 20 years I prayed and hoped for a "second chance" in life to be healthier and thinner - I never thought I would get that chance, but I did, and now <u>so will you</u>.  My humble advice?  Walk as much as possible after surgery.  As your body begins to heal make sure to get in your protein, even if it means plugging your nose and chugging back the protein drinks in baby [pouch] gulps.  Vitamins need to be chopped, minced or crushed... whatever it takes to get them in daily, no exceptions, YOU are worth it.   Also, let's not forget your new best(est) friend, water.  It is SO important to get your minimum 64 oz in daily.  One final thing, remember to <b>CELEBRATE</b> all the special moments along the way, big or small.  Too many people focus only on the number, ie. pounds lost.  There are so many "moments" to look forward to and embrace, don't let any of them slip by.   Enjoy your new healthier life, you've MORE then earned it!!   <i>"The key to happiness is dreams, the key to success is making those dreams come true"</i>  Hugs and Smiles

<b>I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~*~ I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind, I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.~*~Hugs~*~</b>

August 26, 2003 Well I really don't know where to begin, so I guess the begining is fine! My name is Lillian Dawson, I'm 31 years old, divorced, no children, and I have been overweight all of my life. The kicker of the whole thing is I am the baby of 7 children and the only obese one of the bunch. Can you imagine being the only "fat" one of the group? It was really hard growing up---yes you may think well you didn't have to wear hand me downs!!!! Wrong answer....try being in the 3rd grade wearing your 17 year old sisters clothes! Not so cool. But this is what I had to deal with. I've been on the diet rollercoaster since I was 8. I was the only adolescent in Elaine Powers doing aerobics. some of you may not remember her, but she was the First Lady of Fitness! LOL!!!! It was just horrible growing up. Now my adult life hasn't been much better and I am just tired of being fat! My health is just deteriorating right before my eyes---I'm much too young to go through the things I have encountered. I have comtemplated this surgery for about 3 years now. I have told sooooooo many people and educated them on WLS for so long that most of them are already at their goal weight. I have been to many consultations but I was always so nervous because I had never been in the hospital for anything. I just made up my mind and put it all in God's hands which is where it should have been from the get go. After attending seminar after seminar things start to get a bit monotonous---you know the same old thing---WAITING!!!!! Yes that is the name of the game with this surgery. I decided to call Dr Meyers in North Dallas. A co-worker of mine had the surgery with him and she let me know the wait wasn't as long as some surgeons. I mean when you have tried Provost, McCarty, Alexander---anything else is a blessing! When I contacted Meyers office it was a very pleasant gentleman on the other end. He took the time out to explain the procedure and all I needed to do before the consultation. I agreed and July 25th 2003 was yet another consultation. When I arrived there were already a few others there and the show began. Ruth (Dr Meyers' Nurse) came in and began a brief spill about the doctor. After this she explained the Laproscopic RNY procedure and was very knowlegdeable. Dr. Meyers was next---he asnwered every one's question then we proceeded to speak with him one on one. After speaking with Dr. Meyers I decided immmediately this is who I want to perform my surgery! This time it was so personal and not quite like any other I've attended. Things in this office move so swift that you hardly notice the waiting game at all. The next week they were calling for me to do the stress test and I'm just moving right along. Next they called and let me know I have to get a psych evaluation before my insurance company will accecpt a pre determination letter and give approval. I was cool with it besides Dr. Kluge was just wonderful. A week later which was on the 22nd of August I was approved!!!!!!! YEAH!!! Now there was a slight bit of a mix up because---well, when I attended McCarty's seminar a while ago and I do mean a WHILE ago....well they make you fill out a packet...you turn it in when you get to the seminar. You have no contact until you are approved. Well I just got an approval there today!!! Yes they actually called me for a surgery date today but you know who I chose. Anyway I spoke with Ruth yesterday and we scheduled my surgery for October 20, 2003. Boy am I nervous. So if any of you have any encouraging words they will be greatly appreciated. The date is so close but yet sooooooo faaaaaar. Well this is the condensed version and first entry of my journal. I will keep you posted from now on and then after...
