United Hospital Bariatric Center

"Everything was great.. but the darn Recovery Room was sooooo Loud! The staff should concentrate on not talking about personal issues. "

Glenn Burleson

"I had my initial meeting with Dr. Burleson last month. He is a very cut and dry person. I had about 10 questions to ask him. I work with about 60 Nurses... and was given good advice. I have done about a year’s worth of research on this subject as well. I basically went in with these questions and told him that I choose the RNY surgery over the Banding. I explained to him that I had a conflict with another local surgeon who pushes his clients to go with the vertical banding procedure because the Surgery time is less... about 45 mins to an hour and that the RNY takes about 2-4 hours. Unfortunately my insurance pays the same on both procedures and this Surgeon was upset over that fact. I obtained this information from a close girlfriend who went with this other Surgeon and he admitted that fact to her. I was up front and on the table that I could have my sons bleeding disorder (I have never been tested) and that I have already had my Psyche eval and have permission from my Primary Care Physician. I am now just waiting for the results of the blood test I took earlier this week and then I should be able to submit my Surgery Request. I do not foresee having any difficulties with insurance as I am an employee of the insurance company and work with the Case Managers that make these decisions. They have walked me though from step one on what I need by the time this is submitted to them. I like Kathy that is Dr. Burlesons only staff.... What a nice lady. I look forward to working with her more. She is a sweetie. I would say what I liked least about Dr. Burleson is that he is quiet and reserved and lacks a tad on the bed-side manner... but in my experience of Drs and the medical community.. Most Surgeons are a bit dry. The most important thing to find out is how long he has been performing the surgeries and what his rate of success is and do a lot of his patients have leakage problems. I was very satisfied with his answers. He has been doing WLS since 1989.. Yes and he practiced under Dr. Mason who is one of the forefathers of WLS. He also performs other surgeries and does about 2-4 WLS a week. I liked that. He seems competent, realistic and honest. His rate of clean surgeries is good... according to information that I am privy too. I would rank him a good 8-9... but the final proof is in the pudding... we will see how my surgery goes. Wish me Luck! I would like to hear from anyone who has questions! "
