Lori-
Hi, I can't believe you found me and posted a message on my page but I am so glad you did.
I have been home since Thursday, can you believe it? I went home too early though so try and not do as I did ok?
Don't be scared, they will do a wonderful job on you. I was scared because I had to wait so long to get into surgery.
They finally got me into surgery at 12:30 when I was schelduled at 9:30am so I had to wait 3 extra hours and they had an emergency hernia be4 me. They moved the hernia into first place and me into 2cd place because I was an easier case and they moved the first person to 3rd place. Crazy huh?
I don't remember a thing the first day except them putting a warm blanket on me and then awaking in my room. When they awoke me to walk I didn't really even mind because I had so many drugs in me. I really loved the Bariatric Treatment Centers Nurses and Respiratory Therapists (except for one person). I did see Audrey a couple of times but only in passing. The Respiratory Therapist that I saw for my PRE-TESTING I never saw again. I was well taken care of during my stay I never wanted for 1 thing. They are extremely well trained and even more they were all compassionate except the 1 therapist. Amy was my favorite Respiratory Therapist and tell her "hi" for me when you see her. She will remember me because I was her miracle, I almost had pnuemonia one morning and by that afternoon had been released because I improved so much, mostly from her help.
Gosh, I hope you get Theresa for your nurse, she is an Angel, she anticipated every time I needed some pain medicine and she gives the best "shots" I never even felt them unbelievably. The one Respiratory Therapist I didn't like I don't remember her name but I am sure you will know which one she is pretty fast. She has no compassion at all. I don't think she will last there very long because they keep such a wonderful
staff there.
Ok, the nitty gritty.
It does hurt and you do feel strange because at first you can't do much for yourself.
Everyone seems to have an either bad 2cd day or 3rd day and mine was my second day (wed). I would suggest you stay the full 3 days if you can and that is because in case something comes up later like I had you will be right there.
I had to call them and ask about a jillion questions that I didn't understand when I got home. I walked a lot or at least felt like I did, it makes the soreness go away quicker. I walked the halls about 5 times a day and went about 2
laps past the nurses station and opened the double doors and came back by the Nurse's station down to my room and then back around again.
I am not hungry at all but I am really wanting something to eat that isn't a liquid. I think they call this "head hunger" and I have it pretty bad. In 2 days I get off "Clear Liquids" and will be on "Full Liquids" so I will be able to eat more stuff then.
I wish you lots of luck and let me know when you get home from the hospital, the first few days will be hard and then it will be easier everyday.
This will work. Good Luck to you and I am glad we got to meet each other. Take care, Brenda
