Oregon Health Sciences University

"OHSU is huge, and knowing how to navigate the systems is helpful. The staff were very accommodating to my family, with no limitations on visitors or my husband's overnight stays. The pain control team was great for me. My physician is a saint. The food was only OK, but considering I had WLS, that was not an issue for me. I recognize that my treatment may have been different because I am a manager at OHSU, but generally had a sense that all patients are honored and treated well. Parking can be cumbersome . . . I kept my parking permit on my car rather than turning it in for a cost savings during my time off. My husband was able to park in employee parking and not worry about meters or being towed."

Donald McConnell

"Although Dr. McConnell is a very busy man, he makes you feel like you are his only patient. My first impression of him was positive, and that has not changed for a second. He quickly returns phone calls and e-mails (we work in the same hospital). He explained the risks involved and the benefits of the different types of surgery. Although he doesn't have a structured aftercare program, he is available for questions and encourages participation in the support group at OHSU. He is generous with his time and respectful to both patients and family members. Bianca, the receptionist is wonderful. She is calm under pressure and helpful in navigating our complicated systems. The nurses in the office are kind and supportive. The Clinical Nurse Specialist, Vicky Jakovic, is helpful and supportive as well as a major cheerleader for the post op patients. I would have no reservations about recommending Dr. McConnell to anyone who wants the absolute best chance of a positive outcome. "
