Good Samaritan
"The morning of my surgery everything went very well. I was placed in a pre-op room, friends and family came in and all laughed as I drifted off into lala hand. My surgeon's nurse is an expert. I do not even remember being wheeled down the hall. After surgery I awakened late in the night and went in and out of sleep for several hours. Pain meds were administered automatically that night. the second day I was told that as soon as the cathater was removed I would be up annd walking. I had surgery monday afternoon and finally the cath was removed Wednesday afternoon. IV fluids continued as I was having a slight fevor continully. Thursday morninng I am up cathater gone, IV removed and on clear fluids. The hospital does not seem to understand you cannot have coffee or tea of any type that first week because it was on every tray. I know my surgeon came in but I do not remember talking to him. Having to go to the bathroom right away haas always been a problem for me. The hospital was no different. Once everything was disconnected it was like a ghost town when it caame for help. I would buz for help. The message would be the same "OK (mam, honey, Miss)I will tell your nurse. Then I would wate. As I said before I have had a problem for several years that causes me to have to go instantlly. I would give up, pull out of bed and wet all lthe way to the bathroom. My sheets would be soiled, my nightshirt wet, and when I got to the bathroom thhe small collection bowl would not have been emptied from the last time I used it. My surgery was on a monday annd it took it until thursday to get help to get in the shower. The floor was dirty from my dribbles annd the room stunk. At that time I never complained but by continued neglect I finally complained on Friday, now 5 days after the surgery. I was told by the floor coordinator that I was not the first complaint and that it would be noted, but the particular complaints about particular nurses or aides, I was soon taken to x-ray, sent back to the room and around 8 pm on Friday eveninng I was told that I could be released. I could not get anyone to bring me home until Saturday afternoon so I stayed. The long and the short of this whole thing is that you will need someone with you at Good Sam. to be treated like a human and not a study aminal. When my itemmized paperwork arrives will am going to cooount how many gowns were charged to my account as I know for a fact I only used three. I will be following through with my complaints of the caare I received."
