C. Daniel Procter, Sr.

"Dr. Procter is the consumate professional. He has been involved for many years helping others with bariatric surgery. You must go through extensive psychological testing, an informational meeting and support group meetings as well. He also recommends a twelve week psych program which also prepares you for the changes/reasons your body will be going through. It isn't an easy process but when you are finished you feel a sense of accomplishment and are sure you are making the right decision. He attends the support group most of the time and the last time he gave us tips on protein drinks if we should need it. Another time he show us a video tape from MSNBC that show people going through the surgery. His wife is very supportive of him and comes to the meetings whenever she is able. The office staff are under extreme amount of pressure so you have to be careful that you show them you are concerned but not be too overbearing. They are very nice and concerned. Dr. Procter is very up-front and strict about aftercare. He wants you to do well so he will encourage you to follow directions exactly. Part of the aftercare is support group meetings and following through with exercise, vitamins, etc. Dr. Procter told us about risks of fatality and the cases of fatality in his performance, which I believe were two. In neither case was it the surgery itself that killed the patient, but the consequences of comorbidities. If you want more information you should talk to him directly. I haven't had the surgery yet. Not until 7/10/01 so I will update more later."
