"I was very impressed with Northwest Suburban Community Hospital. When I arrived before surgery I was taken to the room that would be mine for the duration of my stay. (Actually it turned out I was moved to another room the day before I came home due to a sewage problem). It was a little weird that I had to walk to the pre-op area but at some point someone came and took the bed out of my room and brought it to the recovery area. I was brought back to my room in my own bed so I didn't have to transfer once I was back in my room. The hospital staff was wonderful. They responded quickly to every need and were very encouraging. They offered positive feedback to motivate me to do my breathing exercises, coughing and walking. The nursing staff first explained how to get myself adjusted in bed, then helped me do it so I had minimal pain. Everyone was very professional about making sure I was covered when walking in the halls. Even the young man that took me to xray for my swallow test took time to make sure my gown was tied in back before we left my room. I had my surgery at a time when the census was low so everyone had a private room and bathroom. This may also explain why the nurses were able to take as much time with me and responded to my needs as quickly as they did. The hospital has very liberal visiting hours and were very accomodating to my visitors. Everyone, including the doctors commented on my Winnie-the-Pooh slippers and an adorable stuffed puppy my minister gave me. I thank God I do not have to go through this surgery again, but if I did I would definiately choose Dr. Boe and this hospital again!"
