3/1/02 I came home today, about 48 hours after the surgery began. The first day was the worst (duh!). But for me, I really hate the "trapped in a dream" feeling that the drugs give me. i think I would rather have the pain. The worst part of the entire thing was not my surgery site (it only hurt if I moved on it) but rather getting an IV. I have the worst veins, even the anesthisiologist had tons of trouble. I ended up with one on top of my hand. It blew and they had to put in another. Five (!!!) nurses/lab people tried until one was finally able to put one in a tiny vein in my wrist. If they had failed, they were talking about putting it in my neck.Yikes!!
The doctors were nice. Most of the nurses were nice but not always on the ball. You'll need to be aware of what your doctor's orders are to let them know. They forgot to order my breakfast, as little as it was, and almost forgot lunch until I reminded them several times.
I am feeling better and more active each hour. I try to get up and walk around every hour and that helps. I've gone upstairs twice already today.
There are two things concerning me and if anyone has any insight, I'd love to hear it. First of all I feel hungry! I am eating the full amount allowed and I still feel hungry. Secondly, I weighed myself and I weigh MORE than the day before I left for the hospital. That just doesn't make sense!! Help!
