~*~I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~*~ I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind, I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.

As of June 26, 2003 - I am scheduled for a Revision of my surgery on Sept. 30, 2003. Dr. Roslin informed me that he will initially perform the surgery Laparasopically, but will have a VERY LOW threshold- meaning any problems with getting at the organs or otherwise and he will switch to an OPEN procedure. I am scheduled for a Pre-Op visit with my internist for Aug 29, then blood work, EKG, Chest x-ray nd Duplex Scan (Ultrasound) for my right thigh- Blood clot formed after the first surgery. Hoping all will go well.

For all who read this- My intial surgeon review is for Dr. Elmer Valn-New Haven, CT. I switched to Dr. Mitchell S. Roslin -NY, NY because he has much more experience doing revisions. My initial surgery was not performed with a transection-just a staple line and consequently, I developed a Staple Line Failure. I have since learned that b/c of this technique, this is NOT uncommom. I have an appt on June 26 with Dr. Roslin to discuss when I can have a revision.

10/19/02 - I received a telephone call yesterday at 5:10 p.m. It was from Dr. Valin - HIMSELF. It seems that I have upset him with my NEGATIVE comments concerning him and his ability to perform WLS laproscopic surgery. He has asked me to "please stop" posting negative comments. I informred him that these comments were MY OPINION, (which everyone has) and that I am very upset that I now have a complication of his laproscopic procedure. I also told him that these feelings were intensified due to the poor quality of treatment that I rec'd at St. Rafe's ER, and that I have lost faith in the hospital as well as in him due to these circumstances. I also informed him that what I posted was said to me by Dr. Roslin.....And Dr. Valin or staff, whoever reads this, please note that Dr. Roslin does not advocate the Laproscopic procedure (and neither does Dr. Reinhold, who made an appearance at a support group meeting to validate his feelings upon it) because you can have more complications that an OPEN- RNY. Not a NEGATIVE COMMENT!!!---I am only stating facts that were relayed to me!!He told me that while I am going to Dr. Roslin for care and for a possible revision, that he was still more than happy to see me b/c I live in CT and Dr. Roslin is in NY and that he feels connected to me b/c he performed my initial surgery. He said that he would be able to treat me at Milford Hosp., as he has renewed his privilidges there. I thanked him for his offer, but I, as well as my family, are somewhat puzzeled by this overture and telephone call. Please E-mail your comments or advice. Thanks- Elaine

I have received e-mails regarding complications of RNY. I appreciate allthe feed-back as now I don't feel as if I am alone. For anyone contemplating a Laproscopic Procedure, please consider the open alternative. My new surgeon advises against it because of the difficulty in being able to see the organs as you are working on them. I know that the recouperation time is longer for an OPEN-but in the long run, I would rather have stayed home longer and not have to deal with staple line failure, an auto-inflammatory respone to this surgery or an ulcer. Which is any complication that I am now faced with. Dr. Roslin, my new surgeon in NYC informed me that he performs 50% "virgin" by-passes which leads me to belive that the other 50% is fixing other surgeons scew-ups. Please investigate your surgeon thoroughly, ask how long he has done the procedure, where and whom he trained with, etc. Remember, that you are placing YOUR LIFE into these surgeons hands. I cannot reccommend Dr. Valin to ANYONE that is considering WLS- he may be a great general surgeon, but he doen not have enough experience performing WLS. Please re-consider if you are planning to use him. And if you have to wait for a surgery date using someone else--- then WAIT. You want to become healthier by loosing weight, NOT BECOME DEAD!!!!

October 10th Dear Elaine: Greetings! I'm so sorry to hear about your complications; I too have experienced complications due to weight loss surgery----scar tissue and thus repeated surgeries. I hope this new surgeon will be the answer to your problems and they will be resolved and you'll have good health. Sincerely, Lori Ann
