Mary continues to improve and the Doctor says she can go home tomorrow (Tuesday). The surgery gave her no unusual problems, but she had considerable discomfort from her (unrelated) back problems. I'm sure she'll be much happier at home, although there is no button to push for a nurse (or at least a disembodied voice over the intercom). On another occasion I gave her a bell to ring for me to come to the bedside, however my hearing impairment causes me to miss a ring from time to time. I bought a small airhorn of the kind used by sports fans and Shriners, so I'll have no excuse during this convalescence. Also, Mary will be able to get to the computer on her own; she went on a couple of longish walks in the hospital today. So this may be my farewell address as an angel--I'll miss the harp music.

Mary, I just read your profile. I **love** your style of writing. You have a GREAT sense of humor. I am almost 55 and having the surgery on 12-19 (if I get insurance approval by then - which I should hear today). May God be with you as you recover.

Oops! Angel error!! The URL I gave for sending e-mail messages to Mary doesn't work. I found this out when my daughter did what I told her and it didn't work. Use either <www.mhhs.org> or <www.memorialhermann.org> and it will bring you to a web page with the note about patient e-mail messages on the left of the screen. You can work it out from there. Choose "Memorial Hermann Hospital" from the long list of member hospitals. Good luck. Sorry for any inconvenience. My halo is slightly bent. Norman Stewart

This contribution and any others until she gets home is written for Mary’s friends and website correspondents by her husband Norman (her angel). Mary had her gastric bypass surgery on Friday the 13th of December. She started out in Day Surgery room 13 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston. After the surgery she spent some hours in recovery and was then moved to the STICU (surgery/trauma intensive care unit) until her doctors (Terry Scarborough along with Steven Glorsky) release her to a hospital room sometime Sunday. As of Saturday p.m. she was feeling woozy but coherent. A physical therapist visit Saturday ended with her passing all her tests, setting up, getting to her feet and walking (with the safety help of a walker) for a few feet. The PT nurse gave her good marks. Sometime Sunday she will have an actual room number with a telephone. Interestingly enough, the hospital will take email messages for patients so anyone may send a message “directly” to her. The URL to access the message page is: <https://swowa.mhhs.org/egreeting/egreeting/html> Yes, do add the letter s after http. I’m sure she will be pleased to hear from any of you. The telephone number of the hospital switchboard is 713 704-4000. Until next time, Mary thanks all for their good wishes.
