Fernando Serra

"Dr. Serra performed a Panniculectomy with ventral hernia repair the first time and an upper abdominal scar revision with mastopexy the second time. He is an excellent surgeon and a very kind person."

"Too many nurses with less than 2 years of experience, unable to perform basic nursing skills like starting an IV. My IV was a problem and infiltrated several times leaving me without access to pain medication for hours at a time because the neophytes on the floor couldn't start it and the hospital supervisor was too busy with emergencies to come help me. Frequently I was given a regular size gown and had to almost beg for one large enough to fit me. I'm still trying to get my bill corrected more than 3 months after discharge."

W. Robert Rout

"He's extremely busy. My first visit I spent 6 hours in his office, most of it waiting. So far my impression hasn't changed. His office staff rarely have correct information. They tell me one thing then rarely produce, it took more than a month to get the information from the doctor's office to my insurance company then less than a week to get the approval (I'd already called the liason person (Lisa)at the insurance company and she worked diligently to help me). Then when I drove to Gainesville for another appointment and stopped by the office Judy wouldn't even take a couple of minutes at any point during the afternoon to talk to me about the paperwork I needed from the surgeon for my employer. He doesn't have much in the way of bedside manner, however he does have an excellent reputation among his peers for his surgical ability. The only person who talked to me about aftercare was not in this office. I guess because I am a surgical nurse risks were not discussed, however I have not yet had my preoperative visit and this may be a planned portion of that visit, along with aftercare. As I said above he has a great reputation. I'd like both surgical competence and bedside manner. To me they are equally important. Please be aware that this is my personal experience and in no way indicates what you may experience. I managed to survive a 4 month wait for my surgery date and the day before my pre-op with the doctor nine days before the day I was called and told I was cancelled because the doctor decided to go out of town but I should feel better because another lady was cancelled today for the fourth time. Now I'm on a doctor hunt again."
