Carl Nohr

"When I first met him I thought he seemed like he was very serious with no bedside manner. Boy was I wrong. He is a very serious surgeon. He is very cautious which I very much appreciated. He has a wonderful sense of humour once you get to know him and he cares very deeply about his patients.I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. The nurse in his office, Karen, is a wonderful person as well. She will answer any questions if you call her. Dr. Nohr's wait list seems to be getting longer and longer. Right now you are looking at a 6 month wait for conult and another 12 month wait for surgery. He is worth the wait for sure!! He very much emphasizes an after care program. I go in and see him every 3 months during my first year. After the first year, I see him annually. He also does a gastroscope about 6 weeks after surgery to make sure everything is healed up well. He is the only doctor I know of who routinely does this and again, that makes me more comfortable with him. I mentioned that at my consult, Dr. Nohr was very serious. The reasons for this, I have since learned, are because he wants to make sure that you know all of what the surgery entails and the seriousness of your decision. He was very clear on the risks. Also, in Canada we don't have psych evaluations and so he has to make a judgement call, based on the consult, as to weather you can handle the psychological aspects of WLS surgery. Believe me, there are more psychological aspects than you think! On a scale of 1-10, I think Dr. Nohr is an 11. You could not find a more competent surgeon and his care fore his patients is superb."
