"The staff was wonderful, right from the beginning. I was admitted through same day surgery where Audrey brought me to a comfortable private room with a t.v. She gave me the basic information regarding my personal belongings and the schedule for the day. The nurse came in shortly and started my iv, blood pressure and other routine things. I was so nervous, I am not sure if the nurse's name was karen (I think it wasy) but she was WONDERFUl. Very caring and took the time to explain each routine procedure she had to go through to prep me for surgery. Shortly after Dr. Nusbaum stopped by. He is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. I was worried, but once I spoke with him, felt so much more at ease. Then Madelaine came to take me off to pre-op where I only stayed for a few mintues. Dr. Nusbaum was right on time. I met with the anesthesiologist, he was great. Then off to the OR. All the nurses were great. Shortly after the anesthesiologist said "sweet dreams, dream of something special" and off to sleep I went. Once in recovery the nurses were very sweet and caring. I was not there for what seemed like very long since I was in and out of it. Once they brought me to my regular room Amanda was my nurse for two days. She was WONDERFUL. So caring and sweet. Then there was Lyn, also GREAT..and Femina, MaryJo and Kim...also GREAT! Kim was a great inspiration to me as well, having been through the same thing, she was wonderful. To all those patients contemplating surgery at St. Barnabas or have surgery dates scheduled, please do not be discouraged by some of the other reviews. Believe me, I read them as well and was also a little put off..but then I realized that you have to take into consideration that it is one person's experience and not all people view things in the same way. Trust me, if you are willing to help yourself to do what is needed to get through the surgery with the best possible results, you will agree, St. Barnabas is a Wonderful place to start your journey."
"I met with Dr. Nusbaum on 4/14/04 after waiting six months for an appointment and it was well worth it! Dr. Nusbaum came highly recommended by my gynecologist as well as my primary care physician. He has a wonderful reputation. I have had the opportunity to speak with several of his patients who have undergone the surgery and all agree that he is the best!! He took a lot of time with me during my initial consultation, never rushing explaining the various procedures in terms that were easy to understand. He was quite personable, a wonderful bedside manner. He also spent a lot of time explaining the extra steps he takes to increase the chances of a full recovery without any complications. He made me feel very comfortable and at ease with my condition and for the first time in my life I felt as if I found someone who cared about me and the pain I have experienced being overweight my entire life. Someone who was going to guide me through this journey. Not only is Dr. Nusbaum incredible but the entire staff is warm and helpful. Wanda was a great help working with my insurance company. I was approved in two weeks. What you should know about Dr. Nusbaum is that he strongly suggest an aftercare program because this is truly a change in your life long change. In fact, it is mandatory. He never minimized the risks of surgery, he simply educated me. His surgical competence was as important to me as his bedside manner. He passed with flying colors!!! "
