Hi all, it's me, officially on the "other side"! It was no picnic, but I had not expected it to be. I have about 20 staples from my breastbone to my bellybutton. I also had a G-tube that went from my abdominal wall into my stomach to drain excess gastric juices. It got infected and they took it out early. It was not too bad except for the first 24 hours. It turns out I am allergic to morphine and it made me dry-heave (Lot of fun with the staples!!) But once they took me off of it, I improved some each day. It is now 7 days post op and I am not feeling too bad as long as I take it easy. Having small children is a bit of a challange..my 20 month old daughter does not understand why she cannot crawl into my lap. I let her once and even with a pillow over my stomach, she managed to jab me with her elbow in my incision. SO...down she went (LOL). All but one of the nurses were great and the one who wasn't was an ICU nurse who is not part of the "New Start" program at the hospital. I had to go back an stay one extra night because of the G-Tube, but by the time I was 5 days post op I had lost 12 lbs!!! The first 24 hours I regretted doing this BIG TIME, but now, I am very glad I did do this for myself!
