" I met with Dr. Singh on Thursday July 16, 2001. Both he and his staff were very warm and personable. He spent one hour with me. We discussed the rationale for bariatric surgery. We discussed a very detailed medical history, even including my perceptions of growing up obese and how it has affected my life. After asking and answering all of our joint questions, he proceeded with a complete physical exam. Based upon my health history, he decided that I was indeed a great candidate for laproscopic RNY. He took the time to explain to me in detail what my new digestive system would look like. He then described what type of aftercare I would need. (Two day hospital stay, gastrograffin study, No NG tube, private room, husband could stay with me.) He then proceeded to e xplain to me what the next step would be in the process, which is getting insurance approval. He stated that he and his staff were scheduling surgery depending upon when my insurance approval arrived. Once approved, I would then meet with the Bariatric Nurse Coordinator, Dietician and Psychologist. (All in one appointment since I live out of state and work full time nights.) After meeting with his team, I would then get a call from his secretary to schedule a surgery date.
My insurance letter was sent by his Nurse Coordinator on Friday July 17th. I am very impressed with how expiditiously his staff is working on my behalf. I am hoping to have an approval letter within the next two weeks.
So far, I must say that I am VERY pleased with how smoothly the process is going. I'll update this profile as more information comes.
Update-I did get my insurance approval. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 30th. I can't wait!"
