Wow! This site is truly amazing. I love reading all the wonderful stories and seeing the great successes of you all. I can't wait until the day I share my success!
I have been on the heavier side most of my life, but the past 5 years I have really become obese. Many reasons, stress, unhappiness, death, heartache, and of course boredom all played factors in my sabotage. I have tried every diet, the main one being the Atkins diet. I thought it was the best diet ever, preached to everyone how wonderful it was. I would lose 40 lbs in 6 weeks! How cool! How wrong I was. The weight cycling really screwed me up. Losing 40, gaining 40 plus 40, losing 20, gaining 20 and so on and so on. Not to mention how bad it affected my immune system and made me sick. So I went from 220 to 275 and thought wow, I gota do something about this. But I didn't. I just kept gaining. I had been contemplating surgery for some years but felt It was the easy way out. Until one day last year I started having chest pain and went to the ER. I was really worried. I was only 32 but my father died at age 47 of a heart attack so it put me at a higher risk. Luckily, I was ok, stress they said. But they ordered an echocardiogram for the following week and it showed a slight enlargement of my heart on the right side. "Nothing major, YET, but you have to lose the weight" is what the doc said. I was 318 lbs. So I joined weight watchers, switched my health insurance to Kaiser (they cover wls) and got my referral. I went to my orientation the end of this last September and started the plan they gave me. By November 6th I had lost 28 lbs. Only 4 lbs away from goal weight!
I decided to wait until this year to have my surgery. I work full-time and go to school at night finishing up my pre-reqs for the RN program. I didn't want to miss the Spring semester. So I am hoping for surgery in May or June. I have my Psych eval this month and I will be done with all of the requirements. I am still trying to push myself to exercise more. Everyday challenge for me but I'm getting there. So thats a lil of my story. I look forward to meeting you all!!
