Great news

Feb 27, 2007

2-27-07 I got a call today from my cardio Dr., there was a change in schedule and I go for my cardio clearence tomorrow! This is great I also confirmed my post op appointment with my patient advocate and it is March 6th at 1:30.  Everything is going smoothly right now ~ What a great day! I am still working on losing my 10 -13 pounds before surgery, that has been a little harder then I thought but I will get there.

My evals

Feb 22, 2007

2-21-07  I did my evals at the Bariatric Hospital today and wanted to post my experience.  I drove in from Kansas and arrived at the Hospital around 10:00 AM I had to fill out some paperwork and then they drew lab, I was then off to my EKG which took about 10 min. no big deal.  Then I had to put a gown on (left pants on) and started the upper GI, I had to drink the white Berium (SP) it was pretty nasty (chalky) but tolerable.  It took about 20 - 30 min. No pain involved and my tech. was so nice and not bad to look at either : ) Then I went up stairs for my physc eval.  I had to wait about an hour for him but it was worth it he was great and it was not what I thought he had me take a very simple computer test first and by the time I went to his office he had it graphed out.  It showed my levels of things in life such as stress, support, self-esteem, happiness .... He asked me a few questions like why do you want the band and what are your expectations he reviewed my diet history and asked why I thought this was going to be diffrent.  He wrapped it up with an overview on the success rate.  All was good! Then I ran and got some lunch and hurried back to meet the exersice person , she too was very nice and informative, I am starting to walk 3x a week at a moderate pace and do daily stretches - Easy enough! She checked my flexability and stableness.  I was with her about 45 min.  Then went to the nutritionist,  She did a brief overview of life after banding but mostly covered the foods I need to come close with in life and foods I need to step away from.  She started me on a 1200 cal. diet not counting cals though I am counting food groups it really looks doable this is my pre-op diet for 1 month until the day before surgery then it is liquids.  This is GREAT compared to most pre-op diets.  I lost almost 4 lbs since I was last there about 2 weeks ago! I was very happy but I need to lose 6 in the next 2 weeks YICKS - but i know i can.  I was on my way home to kansas around 4:00 A full day but well worth it.  This place is outstanding!! Oh and by the way - they all where so happy I was a member of OH and said stick with them!
I have my pre -op appointment on 3-6-07 then the banded together support group that evening - I can't wait to be a post op bander!

Better now

Feb 20, 2007

Well today is a much better day, I got a call back from "my lady" at 7:30am and we talked about everything I felt behind on, tomorrow is my evals and we are looking at March 6th as my pre-op appointment, I got a referral today for my cardio clearance and have that appointment the first week of march.  I feel like we are "back on track" and the ball is rolling smoothly now.  I quess yesterday was a great day in the since that I didn't truly know how BAD I want this until something felt it was going wrong, now I see how much I really, really think this is for me.
We had progress today and that is a great day!

My consult

Feb 07, 2007

2/07/07   I went to my consult on Tuesday Feb 6th and met with Dr. Broussard, his PA, and got assigned my patient advocate (Stephanie) They where all very nice and full of wonderful information.  I set my appointments I will have all of them done in 1 day on the 21st of Feb.  I travel to the Dr. about 2 1/2 hours away so they set all my pre-op testing for 1 day.  It is going to be a long day but worth it.   Everything seems to be rolling along smoothly and I can't help but to start getting excited and hopes up.  Dr. Broussard talks in such a positive way he makes me feel as if he is a "partner" in this and we will  get this done.  He wants me to lose about 10 to 13 pounds to prime my body for surgery so that is what I am concentrating on now.   I can't wait to the 21st, I hope it all goes well.  Amanda

My Seminar

Jan 28, 2007

1-28-07  I attended a seminar at The Foundation Bariatric Hospital of Edmond Oklahoma, I had also been to one in Kansas with  a diffrent program, anyways this one was very detailed and informative.  The surgeon was Dr. Toby Broussard that gave the lecture, my first impression of him was wonderful.  He is so nice, educated, down to earth, honest, and friendly ~ a rare package to find.  The facility was so nice, it was built for the "bigger person" from the chairs in the lecture room to the toliet seats it was amazing.  Everyone in his staff seemed VERY friendly and willing to help in anyway.  There were so many things I just can't talk enough about how impressive Dr. Broussard and his facility were.  I would HIGHLY reccommend anyone to visit them if you are in search of a Bariatic surgeon.

After a 140 mile drive from kansas to Edmond Ok I feel like I got alot of questions answered, that I found a surgeon, and a hospital, that I would love to use.  My next appointment is Tuesday Feb. 6th.  I have alot of anxiety when I think about the procedure itself, I am wondering if that is normal?  I am going to continue my tackle with the financial end of it.  Pray for the best.

Todays thought:  WOW, 1 step closer!

A better day

Jan 24, 2007

1-24-07 Today was a much better day, I worked on getting of course the finacial part lined up and spoke with the WLS cord. in my area today, she is always reassuring.  There are so many choices to make and they are BIg ones at that! Agian, 1 more day closer to the lap band!

Todays thought: Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain!

my doctors visit

Jan 23, 2007

1-23-07 Today I seen my PCP and what an experience!   He is truley agianst all WLS and has made that very clear.  He gave me the whole diet and exercise speach and let me know me lack of "diet motivation" was my problem.  UUUGGGG!!!  As you may guess he is a thin athlete man who has never walked in these shoes or took the time to even look in depth at these shoes.
I am on a hunt for a new PCP who is going to support this.  I have went to this Dr. For a long time and hate to change but I need a Dr. who will support me.
Let me know if you know any in the Wichita area.
Other then that, my husband has a meeting with his work benefits director to ask questions on coverage.

My personal attitude today is I am 1 day closer to the lap-band!!

Todays thought: During the time you worry about everyone else and everything else, don't forget about yourself!

I could scream!

Jan 22, 2007

1-22-07 I have been in contact with the insurance company daily (PPK), my husbands employer, several diffrent financial routes and so far it seems I have hit dead ends EVERYDAY! I feel discouraged and afraid determination is simply not going to be enough.

I will not give up, I guess the more discourage you get the harder you should try.  It is so ironic to me though, my insurance will not cover this at all but will cover any other kind of addiction treatment, or any treatment for any other disease for illness, my only exclusion on my plan is any type of weight loss treatment! I could scream!

Oh, but they did notify me I can get a bike at a discount with a new perk offered by insurance. Are you kidding me?!?

I am on a mission to find a way to get this done as a cash patient I will get this done just how long I have to wait is the question.

Todays thought:  Believe this will happen!
