Well lets see, I guess my story starts out like a lot of other people. I was born and raised in northwestern Ohio. My parents loved each other seemingly. My parents divorced when I was 12. I am not going to bore you with many more details about my family cause there is really nothing interesting to say.
I would say that I have always been a bigger kid. I started wearing husky pants in the 4th grade. I guess that is where the problems started. I then gained weight every year. I was always the last to get picked unless I was playing a goalie position in soccer. I remember that lunch time was always an exciting time for me, not because I could socialize, but because I loved the food. I would always beg my parents for extra lunch money so that I could buy extra food.
So then I grew up and graduated High School. I would say that at this point in my life my weight exploded., If I can remember right I weighed 270 lbs just 2 years out of high school. I think at this point I started to notice that my weight was becoming a problem. I started to think when I hit 300 then I would worry about it and so forth. One day I seen an advertisement on TV for bariatric surgery from the Barix Clinics in Columbus Ohio. I called and made a consultation appt. I was going to have the surgery, however I could not get the insurance approval.
Well the years progressed and so did my weight. There were times where I come to grips with reality and just wanted to accept that I was always gonna be fat. I obviously was kidding myself. Well something changed in my life that i will never forget. I met my beautiful wife.
We started dating and I can remember thinking to myself what does she see in me, I'm fat. She did not care what I looked like, she could see my heart. I then realized that If I wanted to live a long, happy, and healthy life with her. So I got a great job with good benefits. I then realized that my insurance company was willing to pay for my surgery if I followed what they wanted me to do.
Here I am 10 years later and I am having gastric bypass surgery. My surgeon is Peter Lalor and I am having it done at the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at the Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green, Ohio. I can not tell you how excited and nervous I am. I have been wanting this for a long time. I'm more than ready!
