Well I started my journey in Dec. 2005. I was so nervous because I went to the meeting and all I kept hearing was that you have to be 100 lbs overweight have a BMI of 40 or more. Had my first consultation with the surgeon that day and he said I qualified to have the surgery because of my comoderties. I weight 195 lbs at that time. I had to do a three months doctor supervised visit and instead of loosing I kept gaining. Later that month when I went to my first visit to the doctor I had gained to 210. In Jan. 2006 on my next doctor appointment I had gained to 217. In Feb. I had lost 7 lbs that had completed my 3 months supervised doctor visits. I completed the third of my three classes in the first week of March and my paper work has been submitted into the insurance.
In the meantime I think I have gained more weight dispite trying to loose the doctor told me that the medications I am on are part of the problem. I have high blood pressure, have to use oxygen whenever I am sleeping or napping, have diabeties type II, have GERD, IBS, anxiety, and depression.
I tested positive for the H-pylori so I have to have a biopsy on March 27. Meanwhile I sit and wait for insurance approval. I am so nervous it makes me eat even more then I make myself sick just thinking about it.
I was approved for my disability finally after almost 3 yrs. I am so happy. It has been very hard to live on almost nothing for almost 3 yrs. The good thing is that I will not have to change insurances.
03/28/06 Well the biopsy went fine doctor said everything looks good. He said that there is a little redness but that is to be expected because of my access reflux. So he said everything is set for the bypass. Still waiting for insurance approval so I can get my date.
03/29/06 Well today I got a phone call from the surgeon's office and a letter in the mail from the insurance saying I was denied because "the requested surgery is not medically necessary, because most experts feel that for someone with your weight and medical conditions, the surgery may have more risks than benefits." I can't believe what they stated as a reason especially since I have been to four different doctors that tell me that the surgery would be the right thing to do for someone like me with my medical conditions. Well I'm not going to give up my surgeon's office is going to appeal it for me and I will keep appealing it til the either give it to me or they get sick of me appealing it.

I now have Medicare and my surgeon isn't medicare approved yet so now I have to wait till they are approved. They said that they should hear something by Sept. In the meantime I have started Medifast I had gone up to 230 lbs. and have now lost 10. I am going to go see my doctor as supervised visits for another 3 months just in case medicare changes their requirements. My angel, Denise, and my DH have given me the support to carry on even thought sometimes I get fustrated and just want to say to hell with it. So hopefully in one more month I will have a date and join all of you on the loosers bench.

I went to see the new surgeon because Hamot is not a center of excellance so medicare would not pay for it. UPMC Horizon is awesome I had the paper work faxed last friday and then they gave me an appointment for today. I have a date 26th of this month. I am so happy I changed surgeons. They are all so very nice there.

Will have my last supper today it will be one of my favorites, london broil. Tomorrow I start on clear liquids and all the laxitives in preperation for my surgery on the 26th of this month. I am a little scared which is weird because I never have been so nervous with any of my other surgeries even when I was supposed to have a brain biopsy. I guess because this this time I am so excited too. Scared, nervous, excited all at once this is so weird. I hope everything goes well for me keep me in your prayers.

Well just as I figured can't sleep to excited and of course the cleansings of my system. I am so nervous and excited. I can't wait to be on the loosers bench. Well i have to take the supposorty at 3:00 am because I have to leave my apartment at 4:00 am. The hospital is about 2 hours away. My surgery isn't til 7:00 am, but I have to be there an hour early as in all surgeries. I think they do that to freak us out........because nothing really gets done till like 10 min. before the surgery is scheduled to begin. Well, that is all for now next post will be from the loosing side. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes. Special thanks to my angel Denise.

Just got out of the hospital last week after a long stay. I was in ICU for 33 days. I had my gastric bypass and everything was fine then two days later after i was out of the hospital I started feeling really sick. I had punched bowl. They life flighted me out to erie. I don't remember anything from when I got to erie. My boyfriend says they had 14 ivs running through me. Later the doctor told me that they didn't think I was going to make it the only reason I did he said was because of my age. well I'm just glad I'm out of there. So far I've lost 45 lbs. Having trouble with protein but otherwise feeling good.
3/4/07
The scale finally started moving again for me. Weight myself today and I have lost 3 lbs. I am so happy even though it's not much. I have 40 more lbs to lose for my goal. Surgeon says only 27 more pounds to go. Still having trouble getting all my protein in though. But other wise doing great. I have been loosing inches during the time when the scale did not move. I have droped from a size 20 to a size 15. I am so happy I had this surgery even though I had such bad a complication and long stay in the hospital.
