PAMELA KELLEY
- My RNY was 5/8/2002. In May I will celebrate 15 years post op. I have had my share of ups and downs. I had my gallbladder removed after my surgery and have delt with erosive esophagitis. I have lost and gained as I have managed stress over the years. Exercise is the key to maintaining both stress and keeping off the weight. I work my program on a daily basis. I do not drink liquids with my meals and still dump if I eat too much sugar or carbs. I still get the hiccups and a runny nose to let me know I've had enough to eat. I started out at 236 lbs and as of today weigh 88 lbs. Due to the initial surgery 20 years ago my body is no longer absorbing nutrients. I have been diagnosed with EPI.There is no cure. Exochrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. I will be on Creon the rest of my life. I have had 12 EGD's over the last 3 years to stretch my esophagus. I have had stents to keep it open. Now I am experiencing severe pain in my bile duct due to a stone causing a blockage. When they performed a EGD and MRI last week they found a Hiatal Hernia which is also causing abdominal pains. They said most of these problems can be traced back to the RNY. So at 20 years later I am having erosion at all of the laparoscopic sites amid other problems.
I have had nothing but problems since my surgery. My bowels have burst twice. Gallbladder had to come out. Bile duct burst had to have emergency repair surgery to repair it. EGD's every month. I don't wish this on anyone. I'm listed as failure to thrive my BMI IS 16.1 with malnutrition. I live off of applesauce, yogurt, grits, baby food and mashed potatoes. Protein Shake keep me alive. I'm 5'2 and wear a kids size 8/10 or ooo in clothes. I can do without eating normal foods it's just the constant diarrhea and nausea that you get when you try to eat. Thank goodness my girlfriends that had surgery with me have done good and have remained healthy!
