10 months....

Sep 14, 2009

Well it's been a long 10 months but I'm down 112 #+/- but I'm finally not throwing up everything I eat.

I sure wish we could figure out why meat is making me so sick....especially chicken.  What I'm supposed to eat is tainted by what I have to eat (crackers.....etc) just to keep food down.  I wasn't expecting this type of complication, but it is getting better (at least as long as I don't eat chicken).

Everyone is amazed at the changes in me, but as I tell them...it's not a easy way out, it's just darn hard work and yes even struggles to eat right and give up eating so many things I loved to eat.  Just being able to go out to dinner and not think about "I wonder what I can find to eat...or just sit there and watch others eat)...what a luxury...we really don't know how lucky we were then (pre-op)

I'm going to miss the Eugene support group that has disbanded.  I wasn't able to go often due to other health problems I've faced this year, but when I did go I enjoyed the discussions and comraderie of the other people who were at the meetings, and I wish them all well.  If anyone knows of a good support group (open to anyone) here in eugene please let me know.

6 months out

May 22, 2009

It's been 6 months now and I've almost lost 100#, only 5# to go.  I'm still having trouble eating most foods especially turkey and chicken, but what has bothered me most is when I have trouble drinking.  It's funny I can eat a SF popcycle and frozen fruit juice but it hurts to drink fluids...makes no sense to me.

I'll be having my 6 month scans to see if any cancer has started elsewear in my body.  My Hayfever & allergies are driving me crazy this spring.  Ive been congested for the last 4 months.  Yuck!

Because of my other surgeries after my RNY I havn't been able to start a exercise program yet, but now that I'm finally feeling better I hope that will change.  Get to see my Neuro next week then my Surgeon and PCP next month...hoping they will clear me for 'action'.

Almost S Day!!!

Nov 17, 2008

Well, Friday's the big day, finally!  Nov 21...marks the 'new birth'

Going up to OHSU Thursday night and getting a room at a local motel so I can be at the hospital early enough without having to travel that 2 or 3 hour trip the same day as surgery.

I am taking part in 2 NIH/OHSU studys.  One is a long term study where they are looking at all aspects of Bariatric surgery and how well it works and all the possible 'health'/side benifits a patient gets from the surgery .  The other one is a Psychological look at the surgery.

I figure what's a little extra time...if they can get help from my participation.  It doesn't involve any 'special' drugs or treatments so I don't have to worry about that.  If it wasn't for people willing to take part in these studys we wouldn't be able to have some of the drugs and treatments available to us that we now use.

I started at about 340 pounds, have lost down to about 295 pounds during this last year while preparing to get the surgery.  My goal is...just to get healithier.  If I can lose  100 to 150 pounds along with that then I will really feel like I have acomplished my goals.

Please add me to your prayer list that Jesus will take care of me during this stressful time.  Thanks
