Currently, I am a special education teacher in elementary school. In my former life, I was a lawyer representing abused children in southern CA. When my DH died suddenly in 1994, my life began to change dramatically. I went into such shock in my grief that I gained over 100 pounts (and I already had some weight to lose then). The year 1999 found me in Northern CA raising my son's infant daughter. 2001 found the 3 of us in Florida. When my granddaughter started kindergarten in 2003, I volunteered at her school and became instantly hooked. She's now in 4th grade and I have been teaching ever since. With God's help, I will teach for another 20 years or so. My son is now remarried and has his daughter with him. I no longer get to see my beloved granddaughter, so I put extra effort into my teaching....:) I pray that someday I will see my granddaughter again (and maybe even be on good terms with my son), but until that day comes, I concentrate on teaching, spending time with dear friends and trying to get healthy. At this point, I try to do aqua aerobics, when I find the time/motivation to get to the gym, walk whenever I can, which is often, and try to watch what I eat. Since I live alone, I only keep what I can eat in the house. I am anxiously awaiting a surgery date for my lap band.
