Well I would first like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Angie and I am 29 years old, I have a soon to be 8yr old son and I have been married for 5 yrs. I currently work at Cingular Wireless in Fayetteville, NC, and have been there for 5 yrs as well.
I have considered weight loss surgery for many reasons. I have tried everything under the sun to lose weight. After I had my son in Dec. 1998, I went from a 180 lbs to 256 lbs, and from there my weight kept going up and down. I started Jenny Craig and did that for 2 months and lost 8 lbs. I've tried Slim Fast, Hydroxycut, Lean Cuisine, LA Weightloss just about everything you can think of. I even started going to a personal trainer last year and I lost 65 lbs but due to back problems I sustained in a very bad car accident I was in back in 2003 I gained that weight back and then some.
So here I am 314 lbs, borderline diabetes, back problems, leg & ankle problems, possible high blood pressure. And I made the decision in September to consider WLS. I was going to do it last year but I was scared and didn't know much about the surgery so I didn't do it. Now that I have done my research I am more comfortable about the surgery. I know there are risks, but there are greater risks if I don't have the surgery.
So I started my Journey 11/21/2006 which was my first support group meeting and it was very interesting. I came in like I was going to class. Weeks prior I had wrote down a bunch of questions I had wanted to ask and I was so excited that I left them in the car. So 11/29 I had my orientation and I was WELL prepared. I had my three binder, my questions that I wanted to ask, and all the information I had obtained in my research.
12-1-2006 I get a call from the nurse stating that my labs are in the system and my referral for the nutrition class is ready. I was advised that I did not need a sleep study test but I feel strongly that I do being that I snore A LOT and very loudly. So I am getting my primary care physician to put in my referral for the sleep test. So I am on my way, I pray to the Lord that I don't run into any road blocks. I will update as things change.
12-4-2006 Ok, I was at work today thinking whether or not I should go ahead and get my labs done today or wait tomorrow as planned. I work about 10-15 minutes from base, so I was saying to myself if I go out there and the labs are not ordered, I am going to be so mad. So I decided to call my clinic to see if the labs were in, well to my surprise they were not. So I called the hospital to check with there lab, and the lady checks then she asks "Oh my, are you sitting down?" And she proceeds to tell me that my labs were put in, but they were put in for 11/30/07. So I called the bariatric nurse to let her know, and she out the corrct dates in the system. We both laughed at the situation. So I will be going tomorrow to do my labs.
