Still adjusting

Jan 02, 2009

Well, I survived my hospital stay, and am home.  I actually came home on 12/22/08,  but I've had some issues that have kept me from writing up to this point.  Surgery itself went well, and I was up and moving with only minor complaints.  However, after I came home, my incision kept bleeding.  Turns out I got a hematoma (a small, or in my case, not so small blood pocket under the incision).  When my surgeon removed my staples, he re-opened a small portion of my incision to let it drain.  Now I have to have a home health nurse come out and pack the hole each day until it heals.  Honestly, it sounds worse than it is.  It's just that on top of that issue, I have the flu, so I can't get up and moving yet, which is frustrating me.

The good news is that the day before surgery I weighed 306 lbs, and, as of today, I weigh 280.  Twenty six pounds in under three weeks sounds pretty good to me.  Unfortunately, since I have the flu, I'm really struggling to eat, because I just don't feel like it.  I'm a bit concerned I'm not getting the nutrients I need, but I'm hoping I'll start feeling better soon, so that I can start walking, eating, etc like I should.

Thanks to all who have been thinking of me. Now that I'm finally feeling a bit better, I hope to keep in contact with all of you.  Hope you are all fairing well, and Happy New Year to all!
