Week 17

Aug 07, 2007

I survived the 2 weeks of liquids, and am now on day 2 of mushies.  I am having difficulties in understanding just how mushy they are supposed to be, but I'm not pushing it, and if there happens to be a few lumps, then they are at least soft lumps and not huge...I'm chewing, chewing, chewing, as told to get in practice!

I saw the surgeon today for my first check-up.  He is very happy, said I can start gym work...which will be a first for me, and he booked me in for my first fill in just over 3 weeks time.

I
left his office, feeling pretty good, and signed up with the local YMCA gym & pool.  Had my assessment with a dishy looking guy Craig, who went to so much trouble to make me feel comfortable.  He assured me the gym wasn't the muscleman/barbie doll kind.  So tomorrow I start, and I am actually looking forward to it.  I only hope the motivation I currently have, is here forever!

On the weight loss front, I have now lost a total of 29 kgs (63lbs).  I would have LOVED to have cracked the 30kg mark, but didn't happen, and I am so not disappointed with what i've lost.  I knew I wouldn't have huge losses after the banding as I have been losing steadily for 4 months.  If I can keep up this same momentum, I will be screaming it from the roof tops.

Next post after solids!
Good luck to everyone!

Week 15

Jul 24, 2007

After all this waiting it is finally over.  I just got home, and aside from a little discomfort, I feel terrific.  Doctor planned on me being in for 2 days, but was so happy with my recovery, said I could go home.  Very happy about that, as it is much nicer being home with all that is familiar.

Many many thanks to Shell Marr,lea2be, Misty P and judyanne, for their lovely comments and wishes, It was a lovely surprise to login and someone who as taken such an effort, when they don't even know you.  I guess we all share a lot in common now.  So thank you.

It does all seem a little surreal at present, the medico's have done their bit, now it all rests with me, and how I deal with it.

Let the games begin!!

Week 13 down

Jul 11, 2007

Ok, here I am again, 13 weeks down, and with some ups and downs on the Optifast.  I've had a few falls off the wagon, but managed to climb back up.  The dietitian is very happy and says I am exceeding her expectations, but somehow, the expectations I have put on myself seem to be way more than hers!

For anyone with a weight problem, I am probably preaching to the converted here, we are our own worst enemies.

I finally have a date for surgery 24 July, which is now only 12 days away.  Sure I have some trepidation, mainly because I want the lapband so much more than VSG, but I have to leave it in the hands of the gods, and the surgeon.  Fingers crossed laproscopy works, and I get the lapband!

So far I have lost 22.5 kg (49.6lb), got to be happy with that, but I do wonder if it wasn't for the lack of self control, just how much more I would have lost.  Then again, I have had NO self control for years, so I should just take this as a positive!

Next time perhaps I will have joined the banders club.

Week 5 down

May 17, 2007

Week 5 down, visited with the dietitian, who was very pleased with the 14kg (30lbs) loss.  I now have a big consult with the surgeon, his offsider and the dietitian in 2 weeks (well one week now, I was late posting this).

Funnily enough this week past, I have found the hardest on the Optifast.  Cravings have crept in, and messing with my head.

With luck on my side, I may have some commitment from the surgeon as to how he will approach all this.  The band first, lose some weight, fix hernia's at a later date, or go in do the lot at once.  I prefer the first option, but will listen to what he has to say first.

Fingers crossed for good news start of week 7!.

3 Weeks down on Optifast

Apr 22, 2007

Well, 2 more weeks, down, went out for dinner once, had a small grilled steak & bowl of salad, and doing really good.

I can't believe I'm not hungry and the craving has gone.  On the downside, the constipation is horrid...but I'm working on that!

A couple more doctors visits in between, so I guess I'm still hoop jumping!

1 Week down on Optifast

Apr 09, 2007

I have now survived week one on Optifast.  Although the dietitian said I could have one meal a day, I thought if I could I would try to just stick to the 3 shakes a day.

Being a hugely fussy eater, I was surprised I don't mind the taste of the shake.  I have only had the chocolate.

The struggle is with the mental hunger, as I have heard others mention in the forums.  To be honest, I am now kind of scared to actually eat something, in case I crash, so I am going to try to stick to the 3 shakes a day for as long as I can.

I hate the taste it leaves in your mouth, and the frothing of saliva....not sure if that is normal....I may ask in the forum.

Well, counting down, only another 5 weeks before I see the doc......seems like forever!

Optifast journey

Apr 01, 2007

After another set of tests, doctors, I am now awaiting to see the Sleep Study ppl, however in the meantime, I have been asked to do the Optifast thing.

I understand the reasoning behind it all, but as others have said, if I could stick to a diet, I would diet, and Optifast is so drastic, to have no food at all????

Today is my first day, and have had my 3 shakes, luckily I don't find the taste terrible, like many do.  The dietitian has said, I can have one meal, meat & salad only, but I think if I can do just shakes I will, and when I crave, then I will have the meal.  Somehow, I have to last 6 weeks doing this.

Well, day 1 is over.....it's a start!
