An eventful 6+ months

Apr 20, 2009

Well, I turned 40 last month, but right before that, I walked my first ever 5k!!!  Talk about sore!  Now, a little over a month later, I have started a class that will train me over a 12 week period to RUN a 5k!  Eegadz!  Tonite was the first night, I am awaiting the soreness to kick in probably late tomorrow.
I hit my 100lb mark this past weekend.  I can't believe it has been 6.5 months already.  The first couple of months were doozys, but I feel GREAT...I feel like a new person.  The better, more experienced version of who I use to be.  I'm enjoying life again.  Sort of a physical re-birth.
I am determined to make my 40's be better than my 30's (which isn't a HUGE feat)
Things happen for a reason, and I believe God has a plan for all of us.  I was meant to be healthy this year so that I could be there for other people I'm close to that have been in need this past month.
I can only hope that all of you out there going through this, have success and feel 1/2 as good as I do.  Keep going and don't give up.
This 5k class is my 'bootcamp' to get me off my butt & tone some of this stuff that is way flabby!

My new relationship

Nov 14, 2008

No...it's not a man.  I'm not to the point that I want to deal w/ that.  I'm talking about my pouch/mini stomach.  We are forming this new relationship, but it is like one of us notoriously is not listening to the other.  As I always like to say..."it's all about communication people!".
Well, it's like this...when I've had 2 days of throwing up everything I've eaten, I listen better.  But when I have a few good days, I tend to push the limit, and my pouch talks back.  Basically this is teaching me about the kind of relationship I need to have w/ a man.  Keep him happy so he doesn't talk!  hehe
This week was a bit rough...I thought I was wonder woman and recruited 2 co-workers to go to Birmingham w/ me Wednesday.  Keeping in mind of course that starting Tuesday afternoon, I couldn't keep food down.  So, Wednesday gets here...same story w/ the food.  At 1pm we left for Birmingham for a 3 hr seminar, and turned around and came back.  I got home around 1am.  (4 hr drive by the way)  We had fun, although, I think I would have had more fun had I not had to make such close friends w/ the bathroom.  But on the upside, it was in a VERY nice hotel w/ clean bathrooms...what more can a girl ask for, right?
Life is like a box of chocolates. :-D

What a whirlwind!

Oct 07, 2008

Okay, so--I had my RNY done last Tuesday (I'm now a week out).  I didn't experience as much pain as I had expected...more soreness & 'weird' discomfort mostly from the drains--which were removed yesterday!!!  WOOHOO
At my visit yesterday, the doc told me I could move to phase 2 & then 3 on Friday.  Do you think I could puree an enchilada??? haha
My stomach does not feel hunger, but my head is very strong and is making me crave my mexican, but at this point, tuna, salmon, eggs, etc all sound good.
The biggest problem I've had (other than arguing w/ myself) is my stamina is not there. (at all)  It is apparently on vacation.  If I stand for too long, I get week & sweaty, etc.  So everything occurs in short spirts.  I'm sure it is because I'm struggling to get enough fluids & protein in on just liquids.  Hopefully this will pass.
The awesome new is...no more BP meds, no more metformin!!!  I am off all of my meds except my happy pill & nexium.  My BP at the dr's office was 98/78...I'm sure that hasn't helped w/ my stamina, but WOW!!  When I left the hospital 5 days prior it was 161/90.
So, gotta take the good w/ the bad.  I am here, I am struggling w/ my new life, but will come out the otherside, a much healthier happier person.
THANK YOU to everyone who has been there for me through this & will continue to be. (family, friends, co-workers & e-friends)

Scheduled for surgery!!!

Sep 27, 2008

Well, I got the news last Monday!  I've been approved FINALLY!  And since my insurance will be changing at the end of October along w/ my employer (due to a hospital buy out), my doctor got me in this coming Tuesday the 30th.  I've been so busy shopping & trying to get my house ready that I haven't really had time for it to sink it.  I think that's good though.
