Still Maintaining

Jan 22, 2012

Its been a little while since I posted so I thought I would jot down a few thoughts. As of right now I'm hanging in there at around 122 most days. This week I am down to the 119-120 range but I have a feeling I will jump back up. At this weight a few pounds less makes a big difference in my pants, my size 4 pants are obviously too big and I have had several people comment rudely about how skinny I am. I'm not talking about friends and family either, I am talking about people I don't even know or usually talk about go on and on and on about how "tiny" I am. I guess they mean well but they sure weren't saying anything when I was over a hundred pounds overweight! Kind of annoying but I guess I will continue to deal with it. Found a petite large or medium top works the best for a shirt which surprised me since I never thought of myself as petite. Overall, things are going well..I am eating like a normal thin person who doesn't eat much..still can't eat much meat at a time unless its ground..the other day I could barely get down one chicken tender. Other things I can eat 1/2 cup to 1 cup if its a slider. Sweets have crept back in but I feel I have a good handle on it and comparatively to how it was before surgery I feel it is okay. It is something to keep to monitor though and something I avoid on most days. I continue to track all my food even if its on a piece of paper and get at least 60 grams or protein in every day and shoot for closer to 90. Wish I could exercise more but due to an injury that is out right now. Hopefully by spring I can start doing some biking at the very least and light weight training. Will continue to update periodically.

Half-Sized ME

Nov 29, 2011

Realized this morning when I stepped on the scale at 120 I am literally half the size I was at my surgery weight of 242..Kind of hard to wrap my mind around the concept that I have lost as much fat as I weigh now...wow, where did I keep it all! Oh yeah, in size 22 jeans..now I wear a nice fitting 2 and a loose 4..although I wouldn't mind being a little closer to 130 im going to enjoy the low 120's because I never remember being this size..so im embracing it! Eating according to plan is like second nature now..not that I am perfect and don't indulge that would be not true and not realistic..but I do make sure I get my protein in first, eat way smaller portions, and signifcantly cut down the sweets..still like to have a small amount of something sweet at night..I have been having one dark chocolate mini bar (about 80 calories) every other night..hits the spot perfectly.

Maintaince is HARD!

Oct 19, 2011

Made it to my goal weight x2..now surpassed it...I am bouncing around from 124-128 depending on the day. Would like to stay below 130 and today at 128 I know I am getting close so gotta really take a look at what I am eating and STOP the grazing. Up until now it was necessary because I could hardly eat anything at a time but now that I can eat like a normal RNY person (1/2 cup dense 1 cup of softer items) it is not necessary just a habit. Not only that but sweets have been creeping back into my diet even though they make me feel kind of sick. Man that is really stupid. Gotta stop that right this second..today was better tomorrow will be even better. One day at a time is how I look at it. On the good side of things am wearing a 2/4 depending on the pants, never thought I would ever ever wear a size 2 and still a medium/large shirt. Would love to get PS to get a tummy tuck and arms done but there is no way we can afford that and insurance won't pay..maybe some day after we win the lottery or have some money in savings or something. Overall, I am still very satisfied with this journey and would like to continue it with increasing my fitness level and keep watching what I eat. I will keep myself accountable by continuing to update on this site..see so many profiles that I see updates for a year or two most then nothing and I wonder how that person is doing..I am making a commitment to not do that and keep myself accountable. Didn't go through all of this for nothing.

One Year Post Op

Aug 21, 2011

Well its been a little over a year since my surgery.I have lost a total of 111 pounds thus far, going from 242 to 131 as of today. A size 22 to a size 4. I have NEVER worn a size 4 and am totally shocked when I consistently fit into them and some of them are kind of big! I now have lots of energy and feel really good. For a while I was really tired, I don't think I was getting enough calories in and wasn't very good about taking vitamins. I still can't eat much, only able to eat about a 1/4 cup of gluten free noodles and sauce, or a few bites of chicken. So, I'm still drinking my protein shakes and I'm fine with that. Of course some things go down easier like a salad or soup but I try to eat dense foods as much as possible. I hit and surpassed my "goal" weight on several occasions and I am not sure how much more my body could possibly loose. We will see on that one! Overall to anyone who may be considering WLS I encourage you to look at all your options and educate yourself..Would I do this surgery over again despite the chronic fatigue I had for 9 months and food intolerances, heck ya! Would I want to relive this experience--no. So that means I'm going to do everything I can to keep my weight at goal.

Almost a year

Jun 19, 2011

I haven't posted in some time so I thought I might as well. I just realized that it has been about a year since I originally had the idea to have a weight loss surgery. I had thought about it before then of course but never intended to make it a reality until June of last year. I was surprised when I had negative feedback about my plans from my husband and my family despite their successful weight loss from bariatric surgery. In the end, all is well, I have lost nearly one hundred pounds and am about the size I was when graduating high school. I stick to the plan pretty well make sure I get in my protein and am starting to exercise and just be more active overall. I would like to loose about another 15 pounds but if anyone ask I just tell them I'm pretty much done...I realize people aren't used to seeing my skinny so my 145 pounds currently seems shocking to them. Even if I didn't loose anymore I would be happy where I am, can go to any store and find things that fit in a loose 10 or snug 8 and a medium or large shirt...just need to tone up a few areas which hopefully will work themselves out with running and swimming that I have been doing lately. Haven't had heartburn much at all and am still gluten free and loving it. Will try to post for the one year surgervisory..

Surgery is Complete

Aug 18, 2010

Well on Monday I had my surgery. Everything went well and the Doctor fixed my hiatal hernia. He said it was the biggest one he had ever seen of someone my age. So I am really happy that I went through this so that could be taken care of. I am pretty sore and am having a really hard time getting down everything they want you to get down. Suppose to get down four supplements and 64 ounces of water. It takes me about 2 hours to drink a supplment then I am suppose to wait 45 minutes to drink water so needless to say I am getting two supplements down and like 20 ounces of water. Trying to work my way up but it is really hard. Going to take some MOM hopefully that will help me as well. Lost another two pounds before surgery in two days so thats pretty good.

Tomorrow is Surgery

Aug 15, 2010

Well I started my "two" week diet a little over a week ago. Luckily I did not have to do carnation instant breakfast but my food choices have been very limited due to the gluten sensitivity. Overall, I have tolerated the food pretty well, some of it gave me a stomach ache but I got used to it quickly. Tomorrow is surgery I am pretty nervous and hope for a speedy recovery.

Surgery Date

Jul 21, 2010

My surgery has been officially scheduled for the 16th of August. Have to start on the diet on the 4th although I am still not clear what I can eat. I guess I will find out on the 4th! Hopefully its something more than carnation milk but we will see. At least its not the typical two full weeks.

One Step Closer

Jul 19, 2010

Had my stomach biopsy completed now I am waiting for the results. Some irritation was found along with a hernia, which I hope doesn't prevent the surgery. Also found out thanks to my gluten senstivity will likely be on an all liquid diet prior the surgery too, whoa, one month of liquid diet! That's going to be fun. But once I get over that hurdle hopefully it will be smooth sailing. Will find out the results of the biopsy in the next couple of days and schedule the surgery at that time. Hopefully.

It's Starting

Jul 08, 2010

Went to see the surgeon today. He indicated that I may be able to have the sugery THIS month! Although, from my view point its unlikely in consideration that I have to go on the two week diet and all of that. Still, this summer it looks like. This is moving really fast, which for me is a good thing.
