The Beginning of My Journey
May 29, 2009
I recently met with Dr. Christopher Hart in Atlanta and I am so very impressed with him and his staff. Currently I am 5'4, 229 lbs, BMI 39.3 I have Type 2 Diabetes and High Cholesterol.....I may have sleep apnea and will know after my sleep study on Monday. So anyway I am at the beginning of my journey, but I have everything together and in order and hope to be finished with all my tests and appointments within the next 2 weeks. I have an Upper GI, EKG and Pre-OP lab work scheduled for Tuesday morning, Endocrinology appt on Wednesday morning, GI appt on Friday morning then have an appt with my PCP soon after so I can discuss the letter of medical clearance with him. I need to somehow squeeze the psych eval in this week...not sure when I will find the time to do that as I am also a RN and work night shift...there just aren't enough hours in the day!
My insurance is through United Healthcare and I am praying every second that I do not have any trouble with them. Currently all I need to submit for approval is 5 yrs history of height, weight, bmi's. I also must have at least 2 co-morbidities with my BMI being less than 40....and no they will not round the BMI up! Documentation of previous non surgical treatment, and letter of medical necessity from pcp. So from what I have read on here not as much red tape as some!
I decided on the Lap Band because I wanted the less invasive procedure. Being a nurse puts me at a disadvantage in some ways because I know every little thing that can happen and it is scary! I'm a wimp! Anyway I would love to connect with people from all over who have had WLS, any type of wls surgery! I appreciate any advice!
