July 31, 2006 Well it's been a long time since I have updated my profile. I am so amazed at the way the weight is falling off. I will be 5 months post op tomorrow and I am down 80lbs. I was in a size 28/28 five months ago and I am now in a size 16. I can't believe it! I feel great! My husband and I are going on a cruise in five weeks with three other couples and I have come to the conclusion that I have to wait until the week before the cruise to buy clothes. Everything I have bought.... is too big now!!!!! God is so good! So is WLS!! I am losing hair like crazy! Thank God I had a thick head of hair! My hair is very thin now. I have upped my intake of protien and hopefully that will help. I am now under two hundred pounds!! I haven't been under 200 since I was in my teens!! More later.....
April 12, 2006 Feeling better every day!
God is so good. I have not felt this good in many years. I am down 33 pounds and many inches. I thought by now I would have lost more than I have. I have feared that maybe the surgery was a failure for me but then I am reassured by family and friends that it's only been six weeks. I am at the point now that I can start eating normal foods but I am so afraid to try anything other than chicken! I wore a shirt to work today that is hanging on me. It used to be my favorite shirt but I guess I will soon be retiring it. For anyone who has been obese their whole life and thinking about having the surgery, I would truly encourage it. I am a new me already...inside and out!
March 15, 2006 God is soooo Good!!
Well I am two weeks post op and feeling wonderful! I am down 28 pounds since I started my liquid diet preop. Everyone keeps telling me how thin my face is. I'll be happy when they make comments about my stomach!! I think tomorrow I will start walking on my treadmill! I have learned that I cannot have milk (too much sugar in it and I dump!) and no more watermelon (same issue!) I have pretty much been living off of Taco Bell fat free refried beans and then when Dr. Rodriguez called me today to check up on me and I told him what I was eating, he wasn't very happy. He said it was time to start on the soft foods, noodles, rice, egss, tuna salad and so forth. Let me tell you, after the watermelon and milk incedents, I am petrified to try something else! And I love my beans. We'll see how it goes.
March 7, 2006 FROG ¨Fully Rely on God¨
Well, I am six days post op and seem to be doing well. I have had a severe bout with nusuea and the doctor stopped in today and gave me some meds and an injection. I have been unable to eat anything other that a couple of small pieces of watermelon and drink water. Hopefully this will pass and I will feel better before we leave on Thursday to go home. The over all experience with the hospital and all of the doctors and staff was awesome! Everyone has been wonderful, the hotel is great, and the hospital was gorgeous. I can´t wait to get home though. I miss my family horribly and it will be a lot easier in the states to get certain foods that will appeal to me like Cream of Wheat! I´ll write more when I get back!
February 27, 2006 Our God is an Awesome God!
We made it to Mexico without any problems and let me tell you. This hotel is awesome. Everyone is so nice and helpful and we are really pleased. Pre Ops tomorrow and then surgery on Wednesday. I met a women today from Canada who had the RNY last Wednesday and she is up and running around like she´s training for a marathon. Unbelievable. I pray to God that I do as well as she is doing. They are an wonderful couple. And I´ve gotten lots of great information from her. I´ll update you more later. Going to take a nap!
February 21, 2006 God is so Good!
Have I told you how much I love my coworkers? They are so supportive of my decision. Everyone is pitching in to help while I am out of work. They are wonderful!
Just one week from tomorrow until the big day! I can't believe it! I have two more days of food and then I start my liquids. My coworkers want to take me for pizza tomorrow and my sisters, their spouses, my mom, my husband and my friend and her husband are going out to dinner tomorrow night. My friend at work is taking me to lunch on Thursday and my husband and I are going to dinner on Thursday night. Then Friday is the big day! Protein drinks, water, and broth. Yum, Yum! We leave for Mexico on Sunday morning. My in-laws will be meeting us at the hotel that evening to spend several days with us. It will be nice to meet them. I have never met them before. At least I'll have a day or two with them, you know, with make up on and normal clothes. After that baby, it's what you see is what you get. And P.S., I am a big baby when it comes to pain. So I guess they will be seeing me cry!!
I have so much to do and so little time to do it. Tonight we went to the mall and I bought some gym pants and t-shirts. Things I can wear that won't put to much pressure on my tummy. I'll keep you posted......
February 17, 2006 Jesus Saves!
OK...Nine more days and then my husband and I will be on a plane heading for Mexico and I'll start the beginning of my new life on the losing side. I can't believe it! We have company coming next weekend so I will be busy next Friday night and Saturday and we leave on Sunday morning so I guess I will be packing this weekend! If the truth be known, I started packing two weeks ago!! I'm so ready!
Today has been an awesome day. First, I got an e-mail from DoraLisa with all of my confirmation numbers in it. (DoraLisa is the Program Coordinator at the surgery center.) I told her one of my biggest concerns was follow-up care in the states should a problem arise. In the e-mail today she gave me the names of two of Dr. Rumbauts collegues in Florida that I could see. That made me feel better (They are three hours away but it sure is a lot closer than Monterrey!) Second, I went to see my Primary Care Physician (PCP) today and told her I was having RNY and she hugged me and told me that she was so happy for me. I asked her if she would be willing to do my blood work and make sure that I am getting the proper vitamins and nutrients once I have the surgery and she assured me she would. She asked me to bring my surgeons report once I return to the states and she would get the B-12 shots started and whatever else she needs to do. She didn't even bat an eyelash when I told her I was going to Mexico! I love her!! I feel so much better now.
Last night I printed off some helpful information on a website for my folder, and one of the ideas they had was:
Explain to all of your family and friends that they need to support you. They need to be behind you and your decisions, 100%. This includes your ideas about food choices, exercise choices, clothing choices or whatever it might be. They suggested that you make a copy of the page of hints and give it to your family and friends.
I thought to myself, my family is very understanding and I really don't need to make copies and hand them out. The first thing this morning I was telling my 21 year old daughter that it sure was going to be hard next Friday evening when all of our family are at the shrimp boil and I won't be able to have shrimp, potatoes and corn on the cob since I have to start my liquid diet that day and she said, Oh mom, you can have a little bit! Needless to say, she got the first copy hot off of the printer!
I am so happy we (OH friends) are going through this journey together! I don't know what I would do without everyone on this site! Unless you are going through or have gone through the procedure, you really don't understand what it's all about. Thanks for being here!
February 14, 2006 The Lord is my Shepherd!
I can't believe two weeks from tonight I will be in the hotel trying to go to sleep, but not being able to, in anticipation of the surgery. Dr. Rodriguez called me tonight on my way home from work and asked me some questions and filled me in on what I need to do pre-op. I had a thousand questions to ask him but do you think I could remember one of them once I actually had him on the phone?? I was so nervous! But then again, with all of the helpful information I have been getting off the OH sight and from past patients of Dr. Rumbauts, I think that I am ready! I have a binder with dividers and all my information in it. My daughter thinks I am crazy but I am not....I AM PREPARED!! Two more weeks...........
February 8, 2006 With God, All things are possible!
Well, three weeks from tonight, I will be in the hospital recovering from my surgery. It seems like the days are going so much slower now that I actually have a date. I ordered a basket of protein shake samples last week in addition to a book and two 2lb containers of protein mix and then today I ordered another basket and more shake mix. I think I'm set for a month or two! I have a calender now and I'm marking off the days!
February 3, 2006 Jesus is my Rock and I am on His roll!
I now have a surgery date set of March 1, 2006 in Monterrey Mexico! I am so excited! I just purchased the tickets for my husband and myself to travel to Mexico. I don't remember the last time I was this nervous. I never bite my finger nails and let me tell you, they are short now!! I would love for anyone who has used Dr. Rumbaut as their surgeon to contact me and share their experience. Thank you!!
January 2006 For God so loved the World!
After a friend of mine at work, Jen, asked me if I had ever considered weight loss surgery, I really started to think about it. I have been battling obesity all of my life. I weighed ten pounds at birth, one hundred fifteen pounds in fifth grade and over two hundred pounds by age sixteen. And now, at age 44, I am hovering near 300. I have tried diet after diet, medications after medications and have failed every time. I knew several people that had the surgery and they were doing so well and I thought, what the heck? I went to a weight loss seminar in Orlando and after leaving there I knew what I had to do.
After joining OH and reading all of the post from people and what they have gone through with their insurance companies, I knew that I could not wait for another year. I was ready now. So after hours upon hours of investigating, and with the help of my precious husband, we made the decision to go to Mexico and have the surgery. Again, I did lots of investigating and I am very pleased with my decision with choosing Dr. Rumbaut. Now I'm putting everything in the hands of the Lord!
