How the Surgery went
Nov 17, 2007
I could not sleep the night before the surgery. My alarm went off @ 4:30am, but I really didn't need that to get me started. We arrived at the Hospital a little before 6am. It was quick and easy because I had pre-registered a week before. They gave me a blood thinner shot in my back, I really don't like needles, and took my vitals. Around 7am they rolled me into a room to get my iv set. Another needle I really was freaking out at this point. They gave me something to relax me, thank goodness for modern medicine. About 7:30am they rolled me into the OR. They slide me onto the operating table and started preping me for surgery. I wake up on a bed rolling through the hospital as it is now about 11am. I had been asked to rate my pain from 1-10 and at this point I was a 7. I get into my room and was introduced to morphine. Surprisingly I didn't use a lot of this. I felt more bloated than anything from the air that was pumped into my stomach. As mealtime approached I really didn't eat much and was very tired. Around 2pm I was ready to walk and my pain level is now about a 4. I ended up walking about 5 times throughout the remainder of the day and felt a pain level of 2 by the time I was ready for bed. The next morning I am ready to go home. I waited all day to get released and finally got the green light around 7pm. I could not sleep in my bed the first night and felt very bloated. Yesterday was okay, felt bloated and gassy. I slept okay last night on my side in my bed. I woke up this morning and feel pretty good. I started taking my vitamins today and took in about 3oz's of my protein shake. I will keep you updated every couple of days on my progress. Next Dr's appt is Friday the 23rd. Oh yeah, to everyone that tried to reach me at the hospital. Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers. I was unable to have a phone that rang so I was unaware of people trying to reach me.
Tomorrow's Surgery
Nov 13, 2007
Well, tomorrow is the big day. I am very excited and trying to tie up the loose ends here at work. I will have more time after the surgery to enter my story and add pictures. Hopefully this will inspire someone like the many profiles I have seen that inspired me. I want to thank my wife and step daughter for their continued support and love. Also, a special thank you to Debbie, Janet and Susan for all the help and guidence you have given me.
