I haven't struggled with my weight all my life. My weight problems started when I began working full-time (at 18) and had access to a car, money and drive-thu's! (Particularly Mc'Donalds!)
I don't know why I eat the way I eat, I have always thought it was that I just liked the taste of food, but I'm now realising it is more than that, surely. No one "normal" eats what I do, in the quantities I do, without some sort of psychological reasons. I have my suspicions on what those reasons may be, but I don't want to blame someone else for where I am now.
I have made the decision to have my Lap-band changed to RNY. Initially I lost 20kg (44lb) with my band, and fairly quickly. After about a year though, I started to vomit and put up with it for around two years. I don't know why I didn't do something about it. Eventually I had a 'slip' fixed and then the problem was it was either so tight I had terrible heart burn and couldn't eat, or so loose I could eat anything. There was no happy medium. Hence, the band was removed.
I begged my surgeon for a Vertical Sleeve but he knows me too well! Chocolate is a problem for me and he knew that with the sleeve I would still be able to get chocolate down, so there would be no point. I appreciate him not giving in to my demands for a sleeve! (It would not have helped me or solved anything.)
I am now scheduled for RNY on October 6, 2009.
