Leaping into year 2

Jan 25, 2012

Janurary 2010 I weighed in at 299lbs... probably was the most unhappy moment on a scale ever....I may have reached the 300's at some time or other but never did get on a scale to verify it. That was the real beginning of MY WAKE UP to a very unhealthy body. My husband is legally blind and has major medical issues and I am helping my son raise his 7 year old daughter, so I figured if I was going to be any help I needed to HELP myself first.    Of course it took me several months to actually go to the Doctor( May of 2010)weighing in at 290 lbs and ask for help. She suggested WLS and referred me to some fantastic Doctors in Lafayette, La.
My husband and I went to their seminar and gave all my insurance information. The next day I received a call that I was approved for surgery through my insurance because of all my medical problems, (high blood pressure, sleep apnea, rising blood sugar, and of course a BMI of 58). That's when the fun began :) Test , weight loss before surgery, psych evaluation, blood work, support classes(which are tremendously helpful), more xrays, cardio, learning how to use your new and improved body.
                        To be continued :)

Dr. Chu and I discussed which surgery would be best for ME and onward we went. (Duodenal Switch) I began a protein smoothie regement of 2 scoops of high protein twice a day, no fruits, and very limited carbs. One main meal per day, which I alternated frequently, breakfast, lunch, dinner. After 3 months I lost 57 lbs.
All my testing was completed, the insurance information was taken care of and the date for my surgery was decided. September 14,2010. The morning of surgery I weighed in at 233 lbs. The surgery went great, recovery was good also.  The itching during healing was a killer. I made sure I walked everyday even just around the house.
