1 Week Post-op!
Apr 27, 2009
In terms of the foods that I've experimented with, beef and even chicken is not my favorite. I prefer fresh fish as my protein source along with 1-2 protein drinks per day. The shake drinks are difficult to take all day long. I prefer to eat as much of my protein as I can. I feel so good that I wouldn't mind having my first fill a little early, but I'm already schedule for next Monday.
Dr. Umbach did a wonderful job and I only have 4 little scars. The scars are all located primarily in the same area and I have no doubt that I will heal nicely. I don't keloid in that area and any scars that I do have (from previous reconstructive surgeries) healed very well. I'm excited about my weight tracking. I'm hoping that this works for me! This is my last hope.
So far so good! Thank You God!

3/24/09 - I'm Approved!

I had my followup appointment with Dr. Umbach of Blossom Bariatrics today. It's been 30 days since I began the process and Dr. Umbach was floored at how thorough I've been with the required paperwork. He says that they're not used to everyone having all of their paperwork completed within 30 days. My appointment was short and sweet. I confirmed with Dr. Umbach that I made a final decision to do the Lap-band procedure. Because of my history in successfully losing and maintaining the initial 200 pounds over 10 years. It was agreed that I don't need the anything more evasive than the band. I completely get the use of the band as a TOOL for weight loss, and that's exactly the way I look at it. I'm sooo excited because I never thought this day would come for me. 10 years ago, I ended up joining the WW program, because my PCP at the time (I lived in Michigan) denied me the go-ahead for the gastric bypass procedure. At the time I was about 464 pounds. I was devastated because he was the only approval left that I needed to have the procedure at that time. In many ways I can see now that was a blessing. I've done a lot of the hard work on my own that's required of GB/LB AFTER the procedure. I"ve also successfully lost the last 20 pounds following a spiritually-based WL program that emphasizes eating very small quantities stopping when you're satisfied and only eating when you're hungry. No snacking in between, etc. This worked with the exercise, that I was doing, but it was very difficult to maintain the portion with an out of control appetite. This is where the band is extremely helpful! My sugery date is set for April 15th at noon. My pre-op appt is set for Monday at 9:30 am. I'm so excited, it just doesn't seem real. :-)
