Cool Wow! moment for me yesterday!

Jun 22, 2008

I can almost, but not quite, wrap a normal size bath towel around me!  If I hold it in the back it works!  If I don't hold the towel closed my big butt comes sailing through, but it was amazing to me that the towel almost fit!

While I'm blogging, I have something else to say.  What is up with this clothing size thing?  In tops I can be anywhere from a Medium to an X-Large.  What the???    Also, my size 14 capris literally fell off of me twice last week.  Yesterday while shopping at the mall, I couldn't fit into a size 14 dress to save my life.  What the????    It's  very confusing, sometimes exhilerating, sometimes depressing, to buy clothes now adays.

My solution.  I will now only shop in stores where the clothes that fit me are a size Medium or 12.  LOL!

Little "Wow!" Moments

Mar 29, 2008

Someone posted something on the RNY board the other day about day to day "Wow!" moments, the moments when you realize that you or your body has changed forever, since the surgery.   I want to post a few of mine so I can remember them forever.  The title of the thread was "The smallest "Wow!" moment that brought the most joy?" or something like that.  This is what I wrote:

My smallest "Wow!" moments have been my biggest "Wow!" moments and moments I hope to never take for granted!  I love the bigger "Wow!"s, too, like dropping pounds and sizes, but the smaller ones have so much more meaning.

My first "Wow!" that I wanted to scream from the roof top came about one month post op, when I had my first visit with my PCP.  The nurse no longer had to use the large sized blood pressure cuff on me.  I felt like a princess or something.  LOL!  I always dreaded being different that way ... when someone had to hunt down the bigger BP cuff just for me.  I'll never forget that moment when hunting the big cuff became part of my past!  Yippeeeeee!

My second "Wow!" happened a couple of weeks ago, about 4.5 months post op.  I went shopping at the mall with my mom and we decided to go to the food court because she was hungry.  We were sitting on those iron chairs at the food court when it dawned on me ... I reached down to the seat of the chair and sure enough!  Not only was my butt completely on the chair, there was room on the chair on either side of my butt!  I was thrilled!  My butt ... and believe me, it's still pretty wide! ... fit completely and normally on one of those tiny chairs!

Another big "Wow!" moment came last week when I climbed a ladder to hang some Easter/spring decorations from the ceiling of my classroom for our spring party, I am a little over 5 months post op.  It was amazing that *I* climbed a ladder , but the true "Wow!" was that I didn't have to worry about it holding my weight!  It was then that it dawned on me that I'll never have to worry about a chair, ladder etc holding me up or withstanding my weight!   I don't have to test things with my butt anymore before I sit down, nor do I have to stand because of the fear of humiliating myself because I sat on something and it fell apart due to my weight!   Now I'm "just" normal!  LOL!

There's another one that I thought of today while shopping, that I wanted to run home to blog about, but I forget what it was.  LOL!
