Blackflybites
I am a 57 year old woman who has been overweight since puberty. Up and down, always either on a diet (I've done them all and they all work for awhile as you know) or binging, except I didn't realize I was binging until recently, if you can believe it. I have always been a big eater, but only lately can I see just how much. I eat healthy food, fairly low-fat and lots of veggies, but my portion sizes are completely out of whack and I have never exercised. And I can eat 3/4 of a pound of steak or chicken at one sitting. So here I am, after dieting myself up to well over 300 pounds. Not sure. I got rid of my scales, but I was 312 last time I was weighed at the docs. And I am 5'4". I have always been healthy even with my weight, but that has changed in the past 5 years. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, type two diabetes (non-insulin dependent, arthritic knees, and probably sleep apnea. I have a sleep study scheduled in a couple of weeks, so I will let you know.
I never seriously considered surgery because I figured there was no reason I couldn't do it myself and it seemed so drastic and I am kind of a nutrition nut in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, but I feel like this is my last and only chance. Obviously I can't do it, or I would have done it. So here I am. Things are moving pretty smoothly. I went to the orientation meeting and support group at EMMC a week ago, and yesterday I received all my other appointments in the mail. I Nutrition class and Physical therapist on Jan 30; sleep study Feb 3; dietician Mar 7; Psychologist Mar 20th. Seems quick, but I am glad and I am ready.
About me..I am divorced and the mother of one unmarried son who manages a popular nightclub in Boston. I live about 30 minutes from Bangor. I am a full time grad student who will graduate in May (God willing!) and I am hoping to have surgery during the summer. Guess that's all for now. I will post a picture of my cat for my profile picture...her name is Miss MoodyBlueEyes!
