Why I Chose Lap Band...

Everyone is different & has to decide what's best for them.
For me, I chose lapband because I'm in my early 30's & I was
very nervous about the absorption issues & long term effects
of having organs re-routed. Also, I had a C-section in 2001 &
it was horrible, to say the least, and I ended up with a bad
infection in my incision. So, I was scared to death of any
surgery that involved cutting my insides.
I also take medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure,
hypothyroidism, allergies, & birth control. The main one I
worried about being absorbed properly was the birth control.
I didn't need any surprises!
Also, while I want to be a normal weight, I also want to have
a treat now and then & not have it cause me terrible physical
distress. I realize everyone's experience is different, but I
didn't want to risk never being able to have a sugary treat
again. My best friend in Colorado was 40 something when
she had RNY & she swears by it. She's had several
complications & can't tolerate several different types of
food or any sugar. She struggles (even 3 yrs out) but she
would do it again in a heartbeat.
I wish the best of luck with anyone who choses surgery,
which ever surgery they decide to have!

Are You Having Trouble Eating?

People often say they are having trouble
eating or with food getting stuck. Here's
my experience:
Are you drinking plenty of fluid? I know I feel more
restricted when I haven't been drinking water like I
should.
Also, are you eating very small bites and chewing
really, really well? That's an issue I have with
solids if I'm not careful.
The first 2-3 weeks after a fill I'm very restricted.
Then it seems to ease up some. Maybe you're still
in this stage?
As long as you can get in fluids, shakes, soups, etc,
I'd say your right on target. If in doubt, always
contact your doctor.

I had lap band surgery 6 months ago. I'm taking half of the blood pressure medicine & half of the diabetes medicine that I was before surgery. I've lost 50 pounds & I'm thrilled! 
The band is a "tool." It won't do all of the work for you. You must eat well & exercise.
