One week post op
Sep 22, 2007
Alright so I'm finally back online after a stressful week. I went into the hospital on September 14th and had surgery at about 9:45am. I didnt get out until a little after 1, so the surgery took much longer then it was supposed to. I woke up in the ICU/recovery unit and was extremely out of it. So for the next couple of hours i slipped in and out of consciousness for a while until about 5pm. What was nice about ICU was that there was a nurse that literally never left my side. She was there for every single minute which i really appreciated. I also had a pain pump which became my new best friend. Around 5pm my mom was allowed to come in and say hello and stay with me a while. This was also the time when good nurse left and crazy nurse came in. I was told that i needed to start working on my breathing so they gave me a spirometer, a blow tube where you have to make the balls float. Talk about pain, I couldnt catch my breath because it felt like my lungs were being pressed down, so im hyperventilating, my blood pressure skyrocketed, my mom's freaking out, which then causes me to freak out, and the nurse just stands there looking at me in confusion. Of course there was a little kid next to me who is now crying because he thinks that im dying, so his parents are all upset. It was just bad news all around, i almost threw the spirometer at the nurse but i couldnt really move my arm enough to get good aim. After a little while I finally caught my breath and was breathing halfway normally. Around 8pm they finally moved me to my private room, in which i was wheeled in a bed while being serenaded by the bed pushers. Friday night was good, Saturday i was moved to clear liquids and was fine most of the day, then I got a 105 fever that night and had to get a CAT scan at 2:00 in the morning. That wasnt too fun since i had a fever, the room was obviously located in the artic circle, and they pump you up with contrast which causes your body to heat up 5 degrees, i thought my brain was going to be on fire. But everything came back fine and i was released late the next day with a plethora of drugs and vitamins. Last night I had another emergency cat scan due to an elevated white blood cell count, but everything again came out fine. Yesterday was also my one week check up and I was already 19 pounds down, that is just plain crazy. Alright sorry for the long windedness, will update soon.
10 days till surgery!!!!!

Alright, 10 days till surgery. I guess this means I finally have to tell people about it. I have been keeping all this information on the down low for a while now, and as of last week, only my mother knew. I have list of a million things to do in the next ten days and I really have no idea how its going to get all done. Thank god I'm not working right now. Alright, its time to attack the day, cross fingers, cross fingers.....
