Hi, my name is Brenda and I am 39 and live in Eastern North Carolina. I have always been the tallest and biggest girl since kindergarden. I have all the issues that come with being obese. I have high blood pressure, type II diabetes, high cholesterol (which I cannot tolerate statins) and I have had my gallbladder removed (97) and appendix (07). My parents are both deceased--father 62 died from a heart attack and mom 53 from lymphoma. But, what really hit me was when I got a report this past summer that my heart was starting to enlarge. I got off the fence about WLS and started to investigate the good and the bad. Well, I have made up my mind and will follow through with the surgery. I will have completed my 6-month diet on 12-7 and I have completed the EKG, upper GI series and have scheduled a psych eval on Mon 11-16 and the nutritionist appt on 12-3 (which would have been my mom's bday). I am confident in my decision; but, I am starting to get some negative feedback from friends/family. I tell myself that I am making this change for me and not them. This site has really inspired me and has given me a wealth of knowledge--not just on the good side of the surgery but the bad things that occur as well.
