ONEDERLAND....again....finally!!!!!

Nov 19, 2010

I "took the summer off" I wasn't really watching what I ate but luckily because of my band portions were still not near as big as before. I did let alot of things back into my diet on a more regular basis than I had in several years. (I don't have any foods I consider TOTALLY off limits). I ended up gaining some weight back at one point I was back up to 208But luckily it was alot of water weight so I got back down to 203-204 pretty easily. I have been lingering around there for the last few months. last week I decided it was time to start measuring my food again and tracking my calories for awhile just until my brain gets back in line with my band......and bam!!!! after only a week, here I am sitting at 198 again.
In the past I had lost a hundred pounds over and over again but when I got too frustrated or bored I would go back to my old habits and it would all come back. This time my band just didn't allow that. It was always there reminding me about the journey I had been on and it was still there waiting for me when I was ready to jump back on board. I don't recommend that people "take a break" as I did but we all fall off sometimes just know this is a wonderful tool to help lift you back up.

Weight loss struggle

Jun 28, 2010

So it has been almost 2 months since I have hit onederland and since then I have hit a wall. I have lost a few more pounds but have consistantly gone up and down going back over 200 several times (usually water weight). This wall I have hit has been ALL ME. My band does exactly what it's meant to do as long as I do what I am supposed to do (eat my protien first, lean meats, drink the proper amount of fluid, stay away from slider foods and liquid calories) I have done everything I am not supposed to but honestly don't feel all that bad about it. I am able to have a few days of "normal" eating without a second thought then as soon as my weight goes up a few pounds I eat "the band way" for a few days then it goes back down. I have NEVER been able to do that after losing a significant amount. I do want to get down to 175 but for right now although frustrating at times I'm OK. Right now I really do want to get safely below 200 (don't know what it is about that number). So 190 (or maybe 189,lol!!!)  would be great.

Onederland Finally.....

May 05, 2010

A week early from my birthday goal. I have not been under 200 pounds for over 20 years!!! I am so happy and so proud of what I have accomplished. I am ready to continue on this journey and hope to see 175 in the next 6 months but if I don't I have already accomplished what I set out to accomplish!!! 199 WOW!!!

Getting sooooo close to ONEDERLAND!!!!

Feb 04, 2010

Less than 15 pounds to go!!! I can't believe it. I had been over 300#'s for so long that getting into the 200's was a great accomplishment. Now here I am looking at being under 200! WOW!!! The weight is coming off much slower. I can go weeks not losing a pound or going up and down a few pounds then I have a week like this week where I lose 2-3 pounds. The first year after surgery I lost on average 1.7 pounds a week, now I am averaging 1 pound a week which I believe is fairly normal. I am still on track for my birthday goal to be in onederland by 5/13. Then I figure it will take about 6 more months to get to my next big goal of 175. That would mean I have lost half of me and it is also the weight on my drivers license. (nope, never changed it in over 20 years, LOL!!!) But for right now working on a couple mini goals. 210 to take another pic for my scrapbook. Then 203 so I can be OVERWEIGHT instead of obese. I find having the little goals at this point makes it easier and less frustrating waiting for the biggies.

My New Reality!!!

Dec 02, 2009

I weigh 221 and am now less than 20#'s from being just overweight. When I started this journey I was severely Morbidly Obese, My BMI was over 50 so I didn't need any co-morbidities to qualify for surgery. I am truely in awe of what I have accomplished. Afew months agowhen people would ask how much weight I wanted to lose I would say..."I would like to get to 199 but if I didn't lose another pound I would be OK." Well NOW.... That's B*LLSH*T!!! I WANT ONEDERLAND!!!!  I am so close I can taste it. And if I make it to overweight and not onederland..HELL NO I won't be satisfied!!! Now I am even starting to believe in the possibility of getting to a normal BMI (for me that is 169) But for now I will just concentrate on getting to overweight, I don't think my mind is ready for normal

My journey so far & Band VS. Other WLS

Nov 16, 2009

I think this is the most common question on this forum. "What made you choose the band?" So I am going to put it in my profile post so that I can just copy and paste.
For me I never considered anything else. My insurance only covered GB when I first considered WLS. I knew alot of people who had got this sugery and although they lost alot of weight there were many issues from the dumping to muscle atrophy from malnutrition. (keep in mind this was 10 years ago and aALL surgeries have come a long way in the past few years.) I could never remember to take birth control I know I would never take all those vitamins. Then a friend of mine told me about a band surgery she heard about being done in Mexico I started looking into it and the more I learned about the band the more I wanted it. But didn't want to go to Mexico and my insurance didn't cover it. So I started STUDYING diet and nutrition. And spent almost 3 years eating mostly vegan. I lost some weight but mostly just "felt" healthier. A must read book is EAT TO LIVE by Joel Fuhrman, it made so much more sense than other health books. So I knew I needed portion control more than anything because I was already a "healthy" eater I just had to eat sooooo much to feel satisfied. (The reason was confirmed after my first UGI when the radiology tech told me that she had never seen a stomach as long as mine and I probably had to overeat just to feel satisfied. It actually made me feel good to know there was a reason.)
Anyway, fast forward a few years to 2007 I am signing up for my insurance newsletter online and come across an article saying they now cover the lap band and have for a few months. I was more suprised than anyone that I didn't jump in with 2 feet and start the proccess immediately. I waited a couple months to go to a seminar in Dec. where I got the packet of papers to fill out but didn't send it in until March. had  my appointments with Nut, PT, NP and psch eval in May. Had to lose 5%. did that by July. Surgery scheduled for Aug. and due to the threat from the surgeon that she would cancel if I gained an ounce I lost another 5%.
After surgery the hardest thing for me has been eating to get my protein in. I do eat more poultry than I used to but rarely have red meat still which is good since it is usually fattier. I have chosen to be very conservative with my fills. I have had 8 but am only at 5.5cc in my 10cc band. As you can see by my ticker I have done well. I have had no band issues and haven't really had to stress about diet since I had already made drastic changes 3 years prior.
The short answer for why I chose the band is:
1. No malabsorption issues, I only needed portion control.
2. Reversible if needed and would still be a candidate for the sleeve which I  would  definitely get if I had to have my band removed. The band has been great for weight loss but I would be very comfortable having a VSG for maintainance.
3. I have serious control issues and with the band I say how much fluid they give me during my fills. This has been great, so that I lose at a pace I am comfortable with. I didn't want to lose too fast.
Many people  have been told negative things about the band some of which also started to scare me but I had to be reminded by my surgeon that all of medicine has a learning curve and unfortunately WLS is no different. The band, RNY and all other WLS and surgeons knowledge of today is 100x's better than even 3 years ago. And those stats are much better than earlier.
Another common Question is would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY!!!!

One year bandiversary

Sep 02, 2009

Last Week was my bandiversary but was too busy with appt and all to really reflect much. But I did want to update a bit. I have lost 115#'s 80 with the band. All my test have come back fine except that my good cholesterol is low but that has been a problem with me for years.  A couple weeks ago someone posted about coromega and I have been taking it since. My UGI went well. Band is still in perfect position and pouch looks fine. I think we all worry about that with or without symptoms. I know I do and I have never even PB'd. I am so much more active than a year ago and feel much better than I have in years. I would love to lose about 35-50 more but if I never lose a pound I would still be so much better off. The band has been the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Birthday GOAL!!!!!!

Aug 17, 2009

So as of today I have 37.5 pounds to go to get to my main goal of 199. I am a little more than a week from my one year bandiversary and am very happy with what I have done so far. I have lost an average of 1.5lbs per week which is pretty well how "they" say you are supposed to. But now I have 38 weeks before my birthday and the best birthday present I can give myself is to hit onederland. So I only have to lose an average of 1 # per week and I feel it is very doable.(is that a word, it looks strange LOL!!) I will post this on my profile also just to keep reminding me what I need to do and I know I have my OH rooting section also. So wish me luck and thank you all for your support for the last year.

WENT TO DISNEYLAND!!!!

Apr 21, 2009

I haven't posted in awhile so thought I should get on it. Went to phoenix and LA for spring break. Had a great time. Went to a rennaisance festival and the phoenix zoo, then to disneyland and fit on all the rides. Had a fill just before I went and must have worked pretty well because I lost 6 pounds ON VACATION!!! All the walking helped also. The weather here has warmed up and I have had a few stuck episodes. Still no PB but came real close. So not sure if the weather is tightening up my band or if I have just irritated it. Just know I have to be more aware of how fast I eat and how big of bites I take. Have about 2 weeks before I go to Montana to visit my sis and am really wanting to have lost another 5% so I can do another page in my scrapbook before I go. I have 6 pounds to go. When I try to hard it never seems to work well so I will just keep doing what I am doing.
