"i was told by several people that this Dr was one of the best in Louisville. When he saw my sagging stomach skin, he looked totally disgusted.This was very off putting.If he does this surgery ALL the time like he said, why was there this reaction. He did not seem knowledgeble about WLS patients. His office told me up front that they would NOT submit for insurance to possibly approve anything. I was very disappointed w/him and have tried to find someone here in Louisville that would help me but so far have been unsuccessful."
"Dr Gaar is very professional and understanding. I had a list w/over 70 questions and he answered all of them. He is in late 40's/early 50's and seemed to be very knowledgable and kind. His personal office lady asst Regina is very nice and returns all calls peomptly. It is a different story with Denise who sends the paperwork to insurance co. I have had consult on 9/3 and as of 9/22, this batch of info to send in is still on her desk. She asked me to wait another 2 wks before contacting insurance to see if they had received paperwork or not. The thing I least disliked about him is that he does RNY w/staples and in trying to get an answer about SLD from him, he said he'd never had one in 10 yrs, and msg conveyed to me was that the only people that have these things are outeating their pouches. I KNOW THIS IS NOT TRUE!!! I don't know about this offices aftercare program. Dr Gaar believes in getting ALL protein from meats ect... and DOES NOT believe in doing shakes/protein bars. Not sure I agree w/this, but we'll see. Dr Gaar seems real down-to earth, and I really like him a lot. He is head of surgery at the local V.A. hospital, so I feel like if any problems arose, he'd know exactly what to do. I would rate him an 8-9 on a scale of 1-10. I will add more to this after surgery and/or after subsequent visits. These are my own personal comments, and in no way are meant to convey what others may experience or think about Dr Gaar or this office. Oh, a friend did say that Denise is very good at sending in an appeal, and that one she sent in was immediatly overturned and approved."
"She was "Excellent", very friendly and has talked to many WLS pts. She can prescibe books to read that will help,and was a very good listener. I spoke with her sev times prior and after appt,and she always called back promptly. She wrote an outstanding letter that my surgeon said was the best he had ever seen. I was very pleased and was glad that there had already been a great review on her prior to going in. I can't say enough good things about her."
