Hit Original Goal Weight
Aug 05, 2012
Today I reached my original goal weight of 135 lbs. It has been almost 5 months since my surgery.
I've gone from a size 22 to a size 10/8. I have been wearing clothes I've never worn before! I'll post
a picture of date night with my husband. I still experience nausea if I eat too fast, don't chew good
enough, or eat the wrong thing. I had a couple of bites of my son's b-day cake last night and
regretted it. Most of the time I follow the guidelines to a T. I really don't feel restricted yet. I
love all the things I can do now without a hassle. I'm so much more confident and comfortable
in groups of people. We have a Japanese exchange student at our house now. She comments
on how everything in America related to food is so big. Now, I can finally agree with her!
Hoping everyone is having a great summer.
Until next time....

Almost 4 month update
Jul 07, 2012
July 12th will be 4 months out from surgery. So far, I've lost a total of 69 lbs.
Today I went to a party in a dress. I haven't done that for years.
It felt good. I am 11 lbs from my goal of 80 lbs. I am 9 lbs from 135
which is where I want to get to and then evaluate myself.
I'll post a picture of me in my new dress.
Until next time....

3 Month Update
Jun 20, 2012
I went in for my 3 month check up yesterday. So far, I've officially lost 61 lbs! My BMI went from 37.7 to 27.4. I've lost 10 inches on both my waist and hips. I'm about 11 lbs from being in the "normal" weight range. Because I'm a teacher's assistant, I have the summer off. You would think this would make everything easier, but without my routine, I have to try REALLY hard to get in my protein and fluids everyday. I LOVE being home for the summer though, and this is a small price to pay.
I'm thrilled with the results of surgery so far. I can tell the weight loss has slowed some, but I am totally happy with where I am. I need to firm up and lose a bit more belly fat, but I'm healthier and happier than ever.
Until next time....

6 Week Update
Apr 28, 2012
Actually, it's almost 7 weeks since I've had surgery. But I wanted to blog exciting results from a 6 week post surgical check up I had with my PCP: My blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose levels are all within NORMAL range. This is all without medication. Before surgery, I couldn't even get into normal range WITH medication. I will no longer have to take high blood pressure medication or high cholesterol medication. I won't have to start diabectic medication which as going to happen if I didn't have surgery.
To me, the surgery has already been a success. I still have weight to lose, but getting my health back was my primary goal. My asthma and joint aches have also improved dramatically. I have not had a single issue of urinary incontinence since surgery either. (Before I could not laugh, cough, or sneeze without an issue.)
To date, I've lost 42 pounds. I'm down from a size 22 to a size 16 - and beginning to fit into size 14. I have been following drs instructions to the letter. The gastric artery bleed scared me and I don't want any other complications. So far the only food I can't tolerate yet is real eggs. I do fine with Egg Beaters, just not the real thing. I've gotten sick twice with them, so I'll hold off for now.
My energy level is great. I just keep working at meeting my protein and fluid requirements every day. That, and a couple of bouts with head hunger, have been my biggest challenges.
Until next time....

Back Home Safe and Sound
Mar 16, 2012
I'm home from the hospital and recovering. Had a complication with a GI artery bleeding. Was not fun. It caused alot of pain and throwing up of blood until a GI DR was able to cauterize it. Spent some time in ICU, but all is proceeding as normal now. I only ended up staying one extra day in the hospital. It is so much easier recovering at home. I am taking it slow, but steady.
Thanks to everyone for the encouragement.
Until next time....
Clean Up and Clean Out
Mar 11, 2012
Tomorrow is my surgery date. I've been very busy and the time has just flown by. Today, I'm in the process of trying to get my life organized. I want to get the house as clean as I can, get as much laundry done ahead of time, and possibly get the dog washed and cut by tonight. My three boys will handle things fine on their own, but I want to come home to the least amount of chaos possible. I just got done with the magnesium citrate awhile ago. It was A LOT easier than the go-lyghtly I had to drink a couple of weeks ago for a colonoscopy!
Well, lots to do, so I'll report back once I'm home from the hospital and on the losing side.
Until next time....

Liquids It Is
Mar 01, 2012
Well, tomorrow I start my liquid protein diet. That means I only have 10 days left before my surgery! This can be such a long, drawn out process and then all of a sudden, time is rushing and I'm getting very nervous.
I know this is the way to better health, but today is my last day of eating my old "normal." Right now, I want more than anything to be healthy and fit. Let's see how I feel on day 10 of liquid protein, or year 2 of post RNY. Can I really say good-bye to some of my favorite foods forever? It might seem weird, but I'm hoping I get dumping syndrome. I have a wicked sweet tooth and dumping might be the best way for me to beat it!

The Wait
Feb 18, 2012
22 days until my surgery. I find myself waiting just like I did when I was pregnant. I feel like my life is on hold somewhat and I'm waiting to begin again once I have the baby, or in this case, have the surgery.
Monday I have a regular screening because I'm 50 colonoscopy. I have a short stint with the liquid diet and clean out. I'm trying to look at it as a trial run.
This all has happened fairly quick for me. Still, the waiting is hard. I'm still trying to find a protein drink I can tolerate on a daily basis. The only one I like so far is Carnation Instant Breakfast Essential. Not sure if that will be enough protein though. I have my last visit with the nutritionist on Monday, too. So, I'll talk to her about it then.

Surgery Date
Feb 10, 2012
I've got a surgery date! March 12, 2012 is the start of a healthier life for me. Right now, when I come home from work on Fridays, I'm exhausted. I was supposed to go with my family to a MN Swarm game tonight, but I was too tired. I can't wait to feel better and have more energy. I'm nervous and scared, but mostly excited! I have a pre-surgery exam and a final appointment with a nutritionist before the 12th. Otherwise, everything else is done. I'm not too excited about the 10 day liquid diet and the magnesium citrate, but I know it is necessary. Until next time....

Approval!
Feb 02, 2012
Yahoo!! I have been approved for wls!! The approval must have come in about a day. My dr's office sent the letter on Friday, 1/27/12 and I was called on Tuesday, 1/31/12 and told I was approved. I am so happy!
My surgery consult is on Thursday, 2/9/12. We'll set a date then. I want to do it mid March or later so I can recover during Spring Break.....at least some of the recovery. I want to use the smallest amount of sick time I can. I can't wait to hear more about how to prepare.
Until next time.......
