Hi, I'm Cathy and I was always the "big" kid in my class for as long as I can remember.  When I was in elementary school I was already wearing my much older cousin's hand-me-downs because they were the only ones that fit.

Growing up obese was a very difficult thing and actually being an obese adult wasn't really any better.  Please don't get me wrong, I had a great life - I was very blessed.  I just didn't get to do all the things my slimmer family and friends could do.

My health kept getting worse, too - as I began to get into my late 30s and early 40s, I was taking quite a few pills to make me more healthier.  My joints hurt all the time and my level of activity was almost non-existent.  At one point, my family physician suggested gastric bypass surgery and i remember feeling like someone had sent a life-preserver my way.  Unfortunately, my insurance didn't pay the surgery costs so I had to pass.

So I ate more, did less and kept gaining weight, kept taking more medications and kept hurting.

Then a gal I worked with had the surgery and I couldn't believe the changes in her life!  I began talking to her and decided I had to try again - for my family, but more importantly for me.

I had to switch my insurance from my employer to my husband's insurance, but at least the surgery would be covered.  Then I found out that while the hospital was covered under my husband's policy the doctor was not In-network - which meant more expense.  Thankfully, my husband was very supportive of the surgery and told me that if I didn't have the surgery, I would die at a young age so we would pay whatever it took to have the surgery.

My surgery was successfully completed on April 3, 2007 - it has been 1 1/2 years since my surgery and I cannot believe how incredible I feel!  I have lost 150 pounds, over 100 inches, I went from a size 30-32 to a size 8-10.  I no longer have any health issues - I am living life to it's fullest.

I recently competed in a half marathon, rode rides at an amusement park I hadn't been able to ride in at least 25 years - the list goes on and on.

This surgery gave me back my life!  WOW!
